A look at some BrandBucket type sales on Sedo this week

June 1, 2016 by Raymond Hackney 8 Comments

This week was a good example of why you can’t put all your brandable eggs in one basket. While the brandable boutiques specialize in selling brandable names you can be found on Sedo as well. I would say the advantages of Sedo are 10% commission if you want to use their nameservers and list as […]

Is your domain name in their upgrade path?

May 30, 2016 by Alvin Brown 7 Comments

It’s common to see companies in China upgrade their domain names. There can be many reasons, such as better name, prestige, publicity, expanded business line, and going global. .com is king in China’s corporate world. We often see companies shortening their .com names. A good case is China-sss.com, which is an inferior name for the […]

A Hand Reg Home Run and Why You Need Patience

May 29, 2016 by Raymond Hackney 12 Comments

This week on Sedo the domain name InformationOfThings.com sold for $4,500. This domain was hand registered in October of 2015 and sold on May 18, 2016. Pretty crazy ROI on that one. This was a smart hand registration IMO, a cheap speculative play with the potential for a big payout. Playing off the hoopla around […]

GigiHadid.com expires and sells at Go Daddy Auctions

May 28, 2016 by Raymond Hackney 2 Comments

Gigi Hadid is one of the most popular models in the world today. She has over 2.1 million Twitter followers and over 18 million Instagram followers. I would argue that Ms. Hadid’s most valuable piece of online space, GigiHadid.com expired and closed at $708 on Go Daddy today. There were 44 bids and 9 bidders […]

When Major Conglomerates Assist Small Businesses, Everyone Benefits!

May 28, 2016 by Raymond Hackney 8 Comments

In 1996, when I was launching my first online businesses, I saw the Internet as a great vehicle for offering goods and services to people who would not have easy access to them otherwise. My very first online business offered Drakes Cakes to customers across the country. Drakes Cakes (Devil Dogs, Yankee Doodles, Ring Dings and more) are […]

Domain mutual funds in China

May 26, 2016 by Alvin Brown 2 Comments

Mutual funds investing in domain names are still rare in China, but this morning I came across one which I find very interesting. First of all, the organizer says that their first fund has completed. The fund invested in a 4N .com domain name and sold it within 2.5 months for 1m CNY, yielding mid […]

May 25, 2016 by Raymond Hackney 8 Comments

Most of us are familiar with the concept of registering a domain name for around $10.00 USD and then renewing said name for around $10.00 per year. Some of us are attuned to the concept of buying a domain name in the aftermarket for a greater sum and then renewing that domain name for around […]

Explore derivatives of big money words

May 25, 2016 by Alvin Brown 4 Comments

It works in the same way in China as well as the rest of the world: The best money gets you the best domain names. This rule also hints at something useful too: that the second best and the third best and so forth may still have value. Such domain names may give hope to […]
