5555.net closes at $38,286 third highest reported 4N.net ever

July 3, 2020 by Raymond Hackney Leave a Comment

Over the last few months I had been noticing the increasing number of 4N.nets transacting at Namebio. We are only at the halfway point of this year and we have already seen more 4N.nets sell than 2018 and 2019 combined plus another 153. That’s right 265 names in 2020 vs just 40 in 2018 and […]

A handful of expired gems on GoDaddy including a 3L and 4N.com

November 26, 2019 by Raymond Hackney 2 Comments

GoDaddy auctions has a handful of gems that you normally don’t let expire. Last week I wrote about a 3L.com DAE.com which closed at $126,000 and the week before a 4N.com 4600.com expired and closed at $68,000. Currently they have a 3L (CTX.com), 4N (8034.com) a 3N.cc (882.cc) and a 2L .net with QF.net expiring. […]

5N and 6N .com sales trending up in 2019

November 24, 2019 by Raymond Hackney Leave a Comment

5N and 6N .com sales activity in 2019 is the strongest in the last three years. Looking back at the two most actively traded numeric categories over the last three years, we see that with still 5 weeks left, 2019 has surpassed the dollar volume and total sales numbers for the previous two years. In […]

4600.com at $51,000 closes today at GoDaddy

November 13, 2019 by Raymond Hackney 1 Comment

Not too often does an expired 4N.com make it to the last day on GoDaddy auctions. They usually get renewed, but 4600.com is past 30 days expired and cannot be renewed as it’s registered at GoDaddy. The auction is currently at $51,000. Only 14 reported 4N.com sales in 2019. 2018 had 25 reported sales and […]

I’m puzzled by the prices of numeric domains

November 2, 2019 by Alvin Brown 1 Comment

Travis at DSAD provides a good service by reporting domain auction prices daily. By using dotDB and Google search, I can roughly understand why specific domains are sold for the prices. The only exception is long numeric domains. For example, Travis reported a few days ago that 703888.com was sold for $4,600. dotDB gives 33 […]

Do numeric domains have Chinese meanings?

October 5, 2019 by Alvin Brown 1 Comment

Recently I wrote about the sale of 13591.com for 13,500 yuan and added a Chinese meaning. In a comment, investor Rune said his domain 17515.com also has a good meaning. So, do all numeric domains have Chinese meanings? In the post, I said 13591 rhymes with Pinyin words Yi Sheng Wang Jiu Yi (医生网就医 = […]

The Chinese myth in numeric domains

October 30, 2018 by Alvin Brown Leave a Comment

There is a myth held by many domain investors that Chinese love numeric domains. Such thinking was further enhanced during the 2015/2016 boom when lots of numeric domains – even long ones such as 6 or 7 digits — were actively traded. That really surprised me. Do Chinese companies really have a special interest in […]

Sale completed, 5111.com moves to Hong Kong

May 1, 2017 by Raymond Hackney 1 Comment

Well it looks like GoDaddy cashed their winning ticket and collected $218,000 for 5111.com. Many were convinced the domain would be renewed and the owner was just seeking a real world appraisal. Someone emailed me Saturday about the whois not updating and pondered if the domain got renewed. Well the whois has now updated and […]
