Front running me is becoming a thing, well kinda. Back in May I wrote about someone offering me $1,000 for Stock.loans, I accepted their offer at the beginning of the pandemic and they went quiet.
Weeks later they told me they planned on selling the name to a client who supposedly, sadly passed away from Covid in India.
Things happen, moving on
So a few weeks ago I get an offer on a domain name that did have a buy it now for $2,888. The landing page is at Epik and I forgot to check the box to remove “or make an offer”.
The prospect offered $1,000 and I decided to accept it, no reply. No payment made. So then I email them and they tell me, “the deal fell through.” What deal? Our deal? I am following through.
They had a buyer lined up who decided to pass at the last minute.
Strike Two
So this past weekend I got back to someone that offered me $1,000 for Vabol.com, I accepted the offer, and they went silent. They got back to me today saying they thought their boss would pay them $5,000 for it but he was not interested in the name.
Strike Three
They ended the email, “but I will take it for $100 if you like?”
Takeaways
$1,000 seems to be the magic price
All 3 buyers were from India, is someone writing a course on domain investing and how to flip names before you pay for them? I have done business with many from India and no problems so it’s not an India thing, but someone might have a newsletter promoting this technique to sell domain names.
I will never accept another $1,000 offer again. (Kidding).

Unfortunately this is an ugly trend, I too get the offers for domains that are still in auction, see them spamming trademarked names and website/app services on every newly registered domain. I’ve heard some of them have their own little spam factories that outbound everyday. It’s like some noob wrote an ebook on how not to do business.

That’s cray cray. 3 times man that’s never happened to me once. Why someone tried it on a .loans??? Vabol.com is a nice name but why bet on a boss?
$5,000 would be a great sale price on that name.

Just shows you that they are not smart enough to find a good domain name to buy on their own to sell. Always 2 steps behind. No vision!

Are you saying there are scammers in this industry ….. Noooo

Perhaps you might need to ask “Is this for you? Or do you plan to on-sell?”

Yeah I know, I think it’s just weird all 3 $1,000 from India. I have to say I have had a few non payers, not many which is a surprise how long I have been doing this, but I thought to find out all 3 were trying to resell was odd.
