Swetha started September off with a big .xyz domain name sale. Predict.xyz sold for $148,795. It sold at Afternic but parked at Spaceship so Afternic got a 30% commission. I would imagine it’s a prediction market type site coming. There is a predictionindex.xyz out there.

Well, this is awkward. I own luxury.xyz.
The renewal was $517.70.
I paid it.
I’ve spent close to five figures on luxury dot XYZ over the years, between buying them and keeping the damn domain renewed. At this point I’m apparently committed to seeing this bad decision through.
So I paid another $517.70 for luxury.xyz.
Then I redirected it to farts.ai.
Because I can.
If I’m paying $517.70 a year to keep eight letters and a dot, I should at least be allowed to do something stupid with them.
I actually started digging into the history of .XYZ after I got the renewal notice, and that’s a whole rabbit hole of its own. Free promotional registrations, penny domains, massive registration spikes, premium renewal pricing. Blah blah blah.
I’m not accusing anybody of fraud. I don’t need to.
I’ve spent enough of my own money on .XYZ to find the economics hilarious all by themselves.
You buy the premium domain. You pay the premium renewal. You hold it for years. Eventually you’ve sunk thousands into keeping it. Then renewal rolls around again and you think, I’m not paying this shit anymore.
Then you imagine letting the domain drop.
Absolutely fucking not.
Now it’s personal.
So you pay the $517.70 again.
Which is how I ended up owning what is basically a $517.70-a-year emotional support URL.
I’ve been calling premium renewals hostage rent with a landing page, but the ransom has officially been paid.
luxury.xyz is mine for another year.
And yes, it redirects to farts.ai.
Does that make financial sense?
No.
Does it make me laugh?
Yes.
And after paying $517.70, that’s enough ROI for me.
See you next year, luxury.xyz.
Luxury has never smelled this expensive.
