The search for the perfect name can be a long and arduous task. Here is a look at how Glen Allsopp acquired Gaps.com and all the stops he made along the way.
Glen Allsopp according to his Twitter account does SEO mostly. He is the founder of Detailed.com and Gaps.com.
The story of the acquisition is not recent, Glen has owned it a few years now. I had bookmarked the story but did not blog about it at the time.
It’s obvious that from time to Glen likes to register domain names. He mentioned when he wants a more expensive name, his first call is to BuyDomains.
He mentioned he used them for Womanhood.com, and MarketingInc.com.
When he reached out to his rep at BuyDomains the rep came back with a list of 4,000 names. That’s right 4,000 and Glen said he looked at them all.
The only name he really liked was Solely.com. He wrote, “I liked the idea of “Going it alone and doing something big!” – but none of my friends felt the same so I left it alone.”
Enter BrandBucket
Apparently Glen had never heard of BrandBucket, he just came across them by chance.
He found Gaps.com and purchased the name for $20,000. He wrote that he did not use the logo for Gaps.com or the logo for the next domain he bought. Detailed.com.
Glen goes on to wax rhapsodic about BrandBucket. He even mentioned he bought another name at BrandBucket that was apparently banned by Facebook.
