It’s a been a few weeks since NameJet debuted its Premium .WS Emoji Domain Auction.
In my opinion, the results have been interesting to say the least when compared to emoji domain auctions over at GoDaddy.
GoDaddy has fallen completely off the map for emoji domain auctions in the last week or so, but that’s certainly not the case for NameJet moments ago today.
NameJet’s .WS Emoji Domain Auction hosted 😎.ws (smiling face with sunglasses), and watched it taxi down the runway and soar to a *cool* $3.1K close.
As you can see above, 14 different bidders participated in the auction, having casted 18 bids. Most of the bidders were simply along for the ride seeing most bids never made it beyond $69.
Only 3 of the 14 bidders were active bidders, having casted high bids of $600, $600, and $3100 in the last few days.
Although funds haven’t been collected/confirmed nor has 😎.ws been transferred to new owner, today’s $3.1K moves the bar higher for emoji domain auctions and valuations.
There remains quite a few emoji domain auctions pending for NameJet, and quite a few GoDaddy expiring emoji domain auctions coming in the next week or so.
So, where do emoji domain auctions go from here? Are emoji domains, especially singles, gaining in value and popularity?

I still believe these are the most under-rated domains we have available to us right now. The Marketing potential for these emoji domains is exponential. Major Companies want to show off something bright and shiny in their marketing. Well, this is it.
Listen, the category killer dot com will always be #1, undisputed. But the impact of one campaign with just 1 very cool emoji, (like Coca-Cola did) will pay for itself and then some.
Pictures are cool, thats it.
We will see emoji domains go up in price. It is inevitable. These have been around for a few years now. We have seen these go from $0 – $x,xxx and above.
Dot ws (website) did an exceptional job gaining control from Western Somoa and marketing the hell out of these. Thats what yoiu want in a company selling us these. Someone who believes in them and puts their money where their mouth is.
Short answer Alvin, these are definitely going up from here.
We are early.
@Vito — I get that emoji’s are cool. But what happens to the value of emoji.ws domain’s if/when other TLDs start to offer emoji domains?
IMO, today’s value of emoji domains is high (even on .ws) simply because of supply and demand.
Speculating even further into the future of the internet, will we ever have .emoji TLD’s? If in addition to emoji.TLD’s, the consumer had the option of emoji.emoji domains, does that mean the value of emoji.ws will decrease given an increased supply?
I agree Grilled. Yes, i view these as the coolest new marketing tools. I can see other tlds adding emojis. And you bring up a good point. What if emojjs do get added as their own tlds? It would flood the market and dilute.
I view dot ws as the #1 tld for emojis today though and that is why i am investing in only dot ws for my emoji domains.
Dot ws has lut tons of support into these. They have put marketing dollars behind them. I really like that for a digital investment. Having the controlling Company behind their product 100%.
I believe in dot tv and have done very well in dot tv. Verisign has done absolutely nothing to help dot tv. So with dot ws, i have had a great experience so far.
Look at crypto. Who knows what coin will do well. There are new coins each and everyday. Tge one you invested in a year ago could easily beckme the new Microsoft.
Time will tell, but i know this. The Market is picking up very fast on these dot ws emojj domains now.
@Vito — I’m not sure what you mean by the support and marketing behind .ws. I know that emoji.ws domain’s got a big PR push from Page Howe’s Vice News showing. But really, in the grand scheme of educating consumer’s, what effect does that have? I asked two people today (not domainer’s) if they knew what a picture of an emoji.ws was. They knew what the emoji was, but they were clueless as to why there was a .ws, or that it was a TLD.
Some say crypto is a bubble; some say crypto is a pump and dump. The domain king said bitcoin has minted more millionaires in 2017, than the domain industry has in the last 20 years combined. I’ve been cautious about CHIP domains, and the notion that pump and dump’s could occur. So when I see articles such as one written by Braden Pollock https://domaininvesting.com/why-i-invested-six-figures-in-ws-domain-names I am cautious if I want to drink the kool-aid. Comments in the article mention other uses for .ws such as wang shang, which means online? Is that a reason why some speculate that CHIP .ws will have value? Frankly, I have no idea what TLD’s “the Chinese” actually prefer. I notice you own some LL.ws. Do you consider your emoji.ws domains to be more valuable than the LL.ws? Mind you, USA.ws recently sold via the same venue (NJ) for $260.
I appreciate your experience in the .TV niche, and heed your .WS advice respectfully. But I still question if consumers will adopt to .WS as they did/will to .TV. [IMO] Emoji.TV domains would be worth much more than Emoji.WS domains simply because the amount of consumers who already know .TV domain extension vs .WS domain extension. Simply put, it was common to refer to a television as a TV prior to the .TV release. Is it common to refer to a website as a WS? Maybe this will change if .WS [and other TLDs] gain more traction among consumers? Because, right now, it appears most .WS sales are between domainers, and not necessarily bought and developed by endusers? Please correct me if I’m wrong.
To the point of emoji domain speculation, if other TLD’s don’t allow emoji domains, then I would agree that emoji.ws domains will rise in value (being the only option for an emoji TLD)… But really, is it realistic to think that other TLDs will not enable emoji domains? Have you tried pitching an emoji.ws domain to a large ad agency for any of their clients? I wonder what type of feedback you’d get presenting a .ws, and if they’d be aware of the .WS tld, or if you’d have to inform them.
UPDATE: (Disclaimer) At the time of this post, I was not an emoji domain owner. Now, 2018, I am a emoji.to owner; still looking for my first .ws domain though.
UPDATE: Just bought my first emoji.ws. Well it’s an emojiemoji.ws; Not a single emoji though 🙁
so i like the momentum .ws gets as the first mover, every .ws emoji domain name helps every other .ws emoji .domain
and people are just starting to relearn domain names, with the new windows 10 keyboards, its emoji emoji then .ws
4 taps, how quick is that
for direct navaigation emoji can be the unique , lookie here difference maker to help companies and brands, or just individual websites.
the ICANN security committee has said emoji arent allowed in new Tlds, or global tlds, either on the left o the right.
Page Howe
Are you saying the ICANN security committee only allowed the use of emojis on .WS domains? Where can one reference these statements from the ICANN security committee?
I have seen unicode 1.0 punycode domains in .com. I have also seen emoji domains in .TO tld. How do these registries get approval, and not others? It seems to me that some dying TLD’s could benefit from the ability to sell and market emoji domains, if for nothing else, promotional purposes to raise TLD awareness.
