GoDaddy domination – A look at the number of .com sales over the past few years

July 23, 2022 by Raymond Hackney

GoDaddy .com sales

When looking at sales data reported on Namebio it’s clear that GoDaddy rules the roost when it comes to the number of reported .com domain name sales. For the most part these sales are at the wholesale or investor level as names are won on GoDaddy auctions. You will see in the data below how the average price per sale is much lower. These numbers are for .com only, let me stress this is not all extensions.

Taking a look at the past few years here is how the sales breakdown.

2019

There were 93.1k total .com sales reported at Namebio, of those sales 60.2k were at GoDaddy.
$130.8m was the Dollar Volume and GoDaddy was responsible for $25.8m. The average price for all sales came in at $1,406 while at GoDaddy the average price was $429.

Total .com sales in 2021 came in at 128.6k, GoDaddy racked up 94.9k. Total dollar volume came in at $152.3m, GoDaddy dollar volume came in at $45.6m. Average sale price jumped up from the sub $1,000 in 2020 to $1,184. For GoDaddy the average sales price actually dropped to $480 from $527.

2022 First 6 months

For the first half of 2022 Namebio registered 75.9k .com sales with GoDaddy being responsible for 51.6k. Total dollar volume came in at $83.9m. GoDaddy has posted $29.5m in dollar volume.
