Domain Investing Stats and Tips

“I understand you want more but GoDaddy says .us is a top 5 extension. I can get that for $10”

Top 5 Domain Name extensions

What are the top 5 domain extensions?

So I had an offer on a .com name that came through my email. The person told me they were very interested but were not going to get “suckered into overpaying”

I wrote back “I have no desire to sucker anyone into anything, I own the registration rights to the domain name, I know what it’s worth to me, hopefully you share that opinion.”

They comeback with, “Sounds great, I think $500 is fair!”

This is a two word .com priced in the $3,888 range, if they visited the domain name they would see that at the landing page.

So I let them know $500 was too low, and they replied, “I understand you want more but GoDaddy says .us is a top 5 extension. I can get that for $10.”

I replied with top 5 extension based on what? They sent me a link to the You Tube video below.

Uploaded in June of 2020. The host plays a little game for people to guess the top 5 domain name extensions. .US was number 5.

I replied back, “Feel free to register the .us, all the best.”

So far no reply.

One of the many reasons I don’t Trust Godaddy.
When buyers go to search your name on their platform, they provide alternatives to your .Com .

Buyer end up buying their crap extension and think they got a deal of a lifetime until their business crumbles or more sensitive email leaks to the .com owner.

They don’t care about domain owners as they are in competition with moving their own inventory as well using your own domain and deceitful crappy suggestions .

I like Rick Schwartz’s video talking about comparing a domain address to the cost of a company’s signage, a mortgage or physical rent, monthly utilities, marketing costs etc as a way to make the potential client understand the value of a killer domain name.

Either the buyer already knows this and is testing you or they need a perspective that maybe they have not considered.

Pointing out that they will lose a significant percentage of their sales as return traffic types in the .com might also give them pause for thought.
