If you have been into domain investing for at least 12 months are you more or less optimistic about your business today compared to when you started?
I asked this question on Namepros as well and optimistic has the early lead. But it seems some are more optimistic about their own portfolio but not as much for those coming into the business.
Brad Mugford summed it up:
I am more optimistic about my own portfolio. I am less optimistic when it comes to new investors being able to compete with current auction prices.

Are you more optimistic or less optimistic about domaining today?
Ronald Smith says
I voted same, see no reason to be less or more.

Domaining like every other internet business out there needs time and patience as well as being optimistic

There was no “neutral” option so I used “same” as a proxy. The domain name service sector (I don’t see it as an “industry” at all) is going to pass through a tremendous period of change over the coming years, so the answer depends up-on the time fr\me you wish to consider and how the effects of counterbalancing changes pan out.
Let’s ignore for now the possible outcomes of international political negotiations and agreements/disagreements. They could have the greatest effects of all.
How will technological advance affect ICANN’s position as overseer and the monopolistic status of the internet’s infrastructure, I’m obviously thinking of Google, Amazon, Facebook and the hardware giants including Apple, M$ and again Amazon?
Will the accrued wealth of the monoliths allow them to retain dominance through marketing or will innovation and technology prevail?
Are we about to see a resurgence of small businesses proving the business models of the Goliaths to be unfit for this era? Or do the Goliaths know how to change the narrative to their own ends, whether that is to overall benefit or otherwise?
Whatever the outcomes, we are in for interesting times. Domaining as a business or industrial force is a bit player and will be pulled along in the tailwind of whatever transpires.

I say LESS for newbies, but very good for tenured domainers.
A year ago, Zoom was an unknown entity, now institutions and individuals have been forced online due to the COVID Pandemic. The new normal for doing business, has a stronger than ever online component now. Some great sales will happen in 2021 for those owning 1-2 word dot-Com with commercial and/or dictionary meaning, as lockdowns are lifted for good.
Yet, gaining traction into domain speculation as a newcomer post-2020 is more difficult than ever; especially if one tries to build a URL portfolio via aftermarket auctions!
The competition is fierce, but as in all things, there will be winners and losers.
