Domain Investing Stats and Tips

Newsboard.com much lower the second time around Gaben.com pops

Second Time Around – Domain Name Sales May 16 2020

Domain names sales for May 16, 2020 that transacted for the second time around. Newsboard.com from $22,000 to $5,937. Gaben.com $565 to $4,850.

Sometimes it’s as simple as the name expired and it’s not an end user buying but rather a domain investor. Sometimes it is a sale to another end user. Other times the name even though expired is a bit more trendy and trades at a higher price.

These second time around posts can be used in a variety of ways, sometimes it’s to see the burn down value of a name, what were investors willing to pay for a name an end user once valued so high?

Perhaps it’s to see a great flip, a name acquired on the cheap that was flipped for 10, 20, 100x.

I do like looking at names that were allowed to expire at GoDaddy and then the very next year also expire, how did sentiment change, when just about all the variables are the same.

For new investors it’s important to understand that many times these were drops. No domain investor benefited. GoDaddy, NameJet, DropCatch are the winners here. But as I said it gives a second snapshot in time at how people valued a particular domain name.

Hopefully you get something out of them even if it’s just to satisfy a curiosity.

Upswing

Gaben.com sold for $565 in 2018 at NameJet. It closed at $4,850 at GoDaddy auctions on Saturday. This was an expired auction so GoDaddy is the winner here.

NewsMonitoring.com sold for $111 in 2017 at Dynadot and closed at $720 at Dynadot on Saturday. Expired so Dynadot is the winner here.

GayHistory.com sold for $360 in 2010 at NameJet, it closed at $526 on Saturday at NameJet.

Down Swing

NewsBoard.com sold for $22,000 in 2011 on Sedo, it closed at $5,937 on DropCatch on Saturday.

DistinctiveRealEstate.com sold for $2,150 in 2007 at Afternic, it closed at $279 on GoDaddy auctions on Saturday.

PokerShack.com sold for $1,088 at Afternic in 2004. It closed for $260 at GoDaddy auctions on Saturday.

GrowGirl.com sold for $999 in 2015 at Sedo, it closed at $646 at GoDaddy auctions on Saturday.

XLcoin.com sold for $572 at GoDaddy auctions in 2019 and closed for $165 at DropCatch on Saturday.

Same Day Different Result

These are names that expired at GoDaddy auctions on 5/16 as well only different years. Fun to see why a name that operated in the exact same environment, (expired, auction at GoDaddy, mostly domain investors bidding) closed at one price one year, and another price this year.
