Over the last few months we have been losing more domain sales data points in the domain industry.
Interesting factoids, sales data and stats that domain investors crave is drying up.
GoDaddy pulls the data plug
Many years ago we stopped getting two valuable reports, the Afternic weekly sales and the GoDaddy Auctions Monthly Market Report.
Flashback to 2012 we learned that Honest.com sold for $180,000. This was purchased by Jessica Alba’s company.
GoDaddy started preparing to go public and On April 1, 2015, GoDaddy had a successful IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, with the stock soaring 30% on the first day of trading.
BrandBucket monthly reports stop
BrandBucket would send out a monthly recap of sales data and statistics. The last report came out on July 1, 2019.
I asked Margot Bushnaq in October what happened to the report?
She replied,”We decided to do the newsletters quarterly. Stats for Q3 (July, August, September) will be coming out this month.”
That did not happen, so BrandBucket might just be behind on getting reports out. Or they are just discontinuing them.
Verisign Top trending keywords
Verisign stopped releasing their top trending keywords after August 2019. This was the last report.
Uniregistry Sales Report
This week the Uniregistry sales report was put on hold. I emailed Stephen Mathias about this weeks sales report. He told me it was put on hold.
With Uniregistry being acquired by GoDaddy this comes as no surprise.
Hopefully in the future GoDaddy will find a way to release data while keeping everything legit for their quiet periods around earnings.
I have always believed they could release their earnings, let the quiet period expire and put out a sales report.
For those of you unfamiliar with a quiet period:
1. Quiet Period — The period beginning on the quarter-end date and ending at the time of the earnings release for that quarter should be observed as a quiet period with no formal or informal business discussions by management with analysts or investors. However, answers to fact-based questions may be answered via email by investor relations personnel to analysts and investors upon request. Exceptions may occur at the Company’s discretion based on need to discuss breaking news or otherwise.

I never saw GoDaddy Auctions Domain Market Report…
The above mentioned looks cool.
They also gave some info about the type of sale…this is very valuable data without any doubt.
GoDaddy was quick to stop Uni sales data..
They should start again this tradition…at least sales data of $1000+ this certainly helps domain name investors.
Thanks for the article.

Ray,
Totally agree on GoDaddy that there has to be a way for them to release sales data as the leader in the industry. Why not release the quarters sales on earnings day?
