Is price the #1 factor when choosing a domain registrar?

August 15, 2019 by Raymond Hackney

Domain Registrar

In a poll I ran on Namepros onĀ  choosing a domain registrar, it looks like price is the most important factor when choosing a registrar is price.

What is the number 1 deciding factor for you when choosing a registrar?

  1. *

    Price

    111 vote(s)
    57.5%
  2. Customer Service

    28 vote(s)
    14.5%
  3. User Interface/Tools that help with running portfolio

    26 vote(s)
    13.5%
  4. Marketplace/Sales platform

    15 vote(s)
    7.8%
  5. Other

    13 vote(s)
    6.7%

Price took 111 out of 193 votes. So registrars that are offering $10 plus registrations when others out there are offering $8.49, $8.67, $8.99 are not in a great place when attracting the business of most domain investors.

Security and marketplace are also strong attributes that are desired by most domain investors.

And it’s interesting that many domainers are still using GoDaddy, whose pricing is noticeably higher than many registrars.

I think it’s because most of their customers aren’t aware of other cheaper options. I switched to NameSilo years ago bc of their awesome pricing and haven’t looked back since.

Currently, to me, “User Interface/Tools that help with running portfolio” is the most factor.
