So a gentleman name Kyle Byers published a post and a Reddit thread that took a look at .com vs other tlds.
The Reddit thread has 138 comments and it’s interesting because this is mostly people, (maybe entirely) outside of the domain industry.
The post opens up with:
How important is having a .com URL?
Everyone has an opinion, but as far as I know there’s never been a good study comparing domain extensions’ performance.
Until now 😄.
I ran an experiment with 1,500 people to find out how they would react to eight popular domain extensions (top-level domains): .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us, .co, .blog, and .io.
Read on for the full results — they might surprise you.
Trust was an interesting segment:

To be honest, I’m not surprised. As we can see from the poll result, “.com is the number 1 extension” mostly only exists in the minds of the “.com warrior” type of domainers.
Snoopy says
Surprised at what? The poll shows .com has the highest trust ranking. Perhaps remind us again of how many of your precious new tld domains you have sold again? Aah that’s right…..zero.
Ethan says
In case you haven’t realized, the thread meant to say that the poll result might surprise you because people think that there’s no much difference between .com and non-.com extensions when it comes to trustworthiness.
How my own new gTLDs sell does not change the fact that new gTLDs do sell. Time to abandon the “.com warrior” mindset.

Read what the author is actually saying, it is pretty much the opposite to your claims.
Ethan says
You’re right. I stand corrected. I only read the abstract at here and didn’t go through the full article on Reddit. So it looks like the author meant to say that the .com is the most trusted extension. But he also stated that “.co and .org come in quite close on some scores”. And again, the poll result does show that there’s no big difference.
Besides, I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize for one thing. As a person who values etiquette, I really should not have initiated the comment by mocking .com warriors. That kind of remark is provocative and can cause “comment war”. So sorry about that. Period.

when a grown man says URL I cringe, dude how old are you? you sound like a douchebag!
its a Domain Name you ass clown!
Mark Thorpe says
Yes, of course .COM is still the number 1 domain extension and most trusted as well.
