So looking back at 2018 sales, the numbers for certain extensions are way down.
I have said before that two extensions I believe that have been affected by the new gtlds are .tv and .me.
For 2017 .TV sales reported on Namebio totaled $447,000

I know that the owner of Coin.tv turned down $60,000 in 2018, from the person who bought Token.tv and Wallet.tv for $21,275 each. If he would have accepted that would have lifted the 2018 .tv total to over $400,000 which would have only been about a 10% loss from 2017.
Nevertheless I agree that .tv has taken a hit from the new GTLDs, but in my opinion it’s only temporary as the Web is only going to get more videocentric, especially with the rollout of 5G. And I think the Web and television will eventually converge, as a website can do everything a TV station can do and more.
In addition:
– most people are already familiar with .tv as there are many .tv websites and some very popular ones;
– the extension is only two characters, which beats all GTLDs;
– .tv domains are great for advertising because it tells people that video is there;
– .tv is distinct enough from dotcom not to cause a lot of confusion and lost emails.
You are making excuses, the numbers are plain bad.
you are the #1 troll on domaining.com forums. you have no good domain names are surely do not own and premium one word .TV domains.
Why would someone who thinks .tv is a bad way to spend money own “premium one word .tv domains”?
twitch.club and twitch.loans are worth 2 dollars each.
TWITCH.TV sold to Jeff Bezos owner of AMAZON for $970,000,000
.TV is for gaming, video, live stream etc. all the one word ultra premium .TVS are all gone and the owners of such domains know what they have, and arent hurting for $$$$$ so its good to be in the TV Business.
the owners of .TV domain names arent reporting their sales. GOLF.TV just launched and is owned by the Discovery Channel Inc
Twitch was a developed website that would have been bought on any website.
Numbers don’t lie tv sales suck.
then why didnt they build it on your GTLD crap? yeah they built it on HARD .TV FOUNDATION not on .whatever gtld swampland. Rick Schwartz is right you gtld guys are crazy.
Hey jackass I don’t own any new GTlds. They weren’t around when twitch was launched so nice logic. Who is crazy?
The .tv domainers are as unrealistic as the ntld people. Anything with premium price or $20 renewals should not be touched.
.TV has been around for over 20 years. you dont own any great domains you just troll.
…and it has been doing badly for 20 years. There is little money to be made when demand is low and holding costs are high.
.tv domains seem to be a better investment than __tv.com domains, Snoopy, even factoring in the holding cost difference. Here are the figures for tv.coms:
2017:
81
Total Sales
$65.9k
Dollar Volume
$813
Average Price
$1,835
Standard Deviation
$106
Low Price
$15k
High Price
2018:
92
Total Sales
$60.5k
Dollar Volume
$657
Average Price
$2,290
Standard Deviation
$100
Low Price
$20.3k
High Price
It is comparing one bad category to another.
you still here? man do you even own any domains? you are the idiot that buys one beer at a ball game and yells “you bum” to an allstar player. you never put a website with your childish avatar. grow up kid
Rob, you don’t have a website either, in fact you don’t even have the childish avatar!
Yeah why didn’t Twitch launch on an extension not yet launched? Domainers are a funny group.
Given that each domain is unique, it’s unfair to make a generalization of price on the entire tld.
home.loans is an outlier, not just another .loans domain.
If you remove the outliers, the picture will be more realistic.
Agree those sales are staged by the registry anyway, domainers would be silly to consider it real data.
Great comment Samit.
I agree 100%
Those (2) sales 300k .club and 500k .loans, each change the sales averages of each extension significantly. I am happy for them. More than one extension to make money in domaining.
You can easily skew the numbers if you are invested in something. Doesnt mean a damn thing though.
Here I will do it right now as an example…
Appiscreen.fr sold for 31k this past month so this goes to show all 2-word dot fr’s should be at least 30k since this 2-worder isnt that great.
Back to reality. Now, funny thing is that is the highest ever dot fr domain name reported sale ever. Next one below that was 11k. Everything below those 2 dot fr’s were lower than 5 digits.
I do agree with the main point of the article here though. Overall yes, NewG’s have taken money away from dot tv and dot me. BUT, NewG’s have taken money away from all TLD’s.
I am sure when looking for a personal brand some will find dot me again. When looking for a serious video-centric brand they will find dot tv.
@Samit the new gtlds for comparison has no bearing on the fact that .tv sales and .me sales for the last two years have been poor.
Agree,
For .me it is the .io equivalent of 10 years ago. Before that it was .ws and .cc (20 years ago) Those names go in trends, .co is possibly nearing the end of its run and eventually .io and .ai will seem “very 2018” aswell. None of these repackaged country codes are for the long term.
.me has been effected far more by other rebranded country codes than new tlds. Whatever people choose to believe on the cause though the numbers and clearly bad.
.io has effected .tv and .me ccTLD sales, so has nTLD’s. Even .co has been effected by .io
But just like .me .tv and .co in the past, .io domains end up being upgraded to .COM eventually.
PLUTO.TV just sold to VIACOM for $340,000,000 in cash what do you haters have to say now. you fools!!! everyone around the world knows what TV is. you cannot build a livestreaming TV channel on .com its all about .TV and you dont own any LOL HAHAHA
You can’t build a live streaming channel on .com? Why not? Ever heard of Youtube & Facebook?
