The Essentials of Domain Leasing for Small Business

March 25, 2018 by Alvin Brown

As you know or may not know, Kickstart Commerce offers affordable domain leasing for our growing portfolio of domain names.

Typically, when I receive inquiries about some of my most popular domain names and met with sticker shock from uneducated domain buyers, I always offer a payment plan to buy the domain, or a leasing payment to use the domain for a set period of time should I not want to sell.

I’m not always successful with the latter option as most domain buyers who are not able to afford my portfolio of premium .com domains tend to move and settle for a lesser priced domain.

But much like physical real estate, I’ll continue to hold my oceanfront property for the right buyer to come along and see the value in paying my asking price.

Nevertheless, today’s post will help those of you looking to purchase by way of leasing that one game-changing domain name that will morph your business into an online powerhouse brand.

Premium .com Domain Names: Rent, Lease or Buy?

Most people think domain names can only be purchase. And to some extent, they are right although there is a growing percentage of domain names, classified as premium .com domains, that are being leased and rented when their asking price is out of the ballpark for domain buyers wanting to purchase.

In this article, I discuss in detail 3 reasons why domain leasing is becoming a hot trend for small business owners, and whether or not it is the right option for your business.

Top 7 considerations when domain leasing

Okay, so now you’ve found the domain you wanted and the seller doesn’t want to sell you the domain. Now what? I guess you’ll have to find a different domain name now, right?

Well, not too fast, let me suggest to you that you should approach the domain seller with a leasing proposition, or the domain seller has suggested a domain leasing option.

Either way, read my top 7 considerations when domain leasing before you let the ink dry on your domain leasing agreement.

Pros and Cons of Domain Type-in Traffic

Yes, yet another type of domain: the ole’ type-in domains. If you are clueless and have not a clue as to what I’m referencing, then I suggest you read this article. It is a mind-blowing article for those of you that have never heard of domains with type-in traffic.

In short, let me say that this is how pay-per-click advertising, also known as buying and leasing website traffic, got its start. Sound familiar?

How to Negotiate Marketing Budget for Domain Lease Agreements

You don’t have to break the bank to have profitable domain lease agreements.  In fact, it’s hush-hush secret that most companies are willing to lease domains a for a couple of hundred dollars per month.  Read more about how you can crack the domain lease agreement code for your domain portfolio.

I’ve never really given leasing/renting domain assets much thought, personally. But after reading this, I think I may look more into it. 🙂
