The most interesting thing for me was the fact that Frank Schilling purchased .xxx names before there was an approved .xxx extension. The article says he paid seven figures for some of the very best adult keywords.
So if you owned the name video or videos or webcam.com you have no chance for the .xxx. Frank made smart regs imo for the names that are not vulgar and blatantly crude. A few are pushing it in my opinion.
Now I don't know the terms of the deal, was Frank taking the ultimate risk ? What if .xxx was not approved, would he still have had to pay for the names ?
Why was this done the way it was done ? I am sure other extension wannabes will find this interesting. "Hey buy the best names now give us a million dollars, sure they won't start propagating til 2013, but what the heck ?"
This is not the best example of transparency for an industry that says it wants more transparency.
I read that post. Its odd no one seems concerned that someone is selling names in an unapproved tld. good writing thanks for going past the cheerleading.
