Everyone has niches and keywords they focus on, some are currently hot, CBD, Crypto. Others are tried and true like shop and online. Each month I do a post on popular keywords either starting with the keyword or ending with the keyword. Now in this post I decided to take a look at all reported […]

February 26, 2021 by Raymond Hackney

AQS.com is now at auction at DropCatch, the 3L.com was allowed to drop. Namepros member AEProgram pointed out that according to Archive.org it was once home to Air Quality Sciences and later on redirected to ul.com (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UL_(safety_organization) ) registrar was MarkMonitor Inc. So take a guess in the comments of where you think the auction […]

Seller takes a big haircut selling 509.com

February 25, 2021 by Raymond Hackney 2 Comments

It’s no secret numeric domain names have been taking a hit from their prices a few years ago. 509.com sold for $106,000 on Monday at Sedo. Nice price right? Not really, it sold for $295,000 just 3 years ago. The Booth brothers operating under BQDN back then sold the domain name on May 27, 2018. […]

There can be many reasons that name you want to see developed is not developed

February 24, 2021 by Raymond Hackney 2 Comments

One thing I get all the time in emails and sometimes in phone calls, is outrage that a domain name sale was announced and that domain name is not developed. This is kind of what brought about the Offthehandle/Kate Buckley debacle. (Offthehandle has not been heard from since he was doxxed on Twitter). Over the […]

Interview with Aaron Oxborrow, founder Domain.io

February 22, 2021 by Raymond Hackney 7 Comments

During NamesCon I saw the mention of the $50,000 sale of Domain.io, Aaron had mentioned it sold in 2020 and they were announcing it now. I wanted to see what Domain.io was all about. Aaron was kind enough to answer some questions in the interview below. Q1) Domain.io was recently reported as sold for $50,000. […]

Ego vs money (how it took close to a year to close a 6 figure .tv sale)

February 20, 2021 by Raymond Hackney 15 Comments

I have been brokering names for many years, not at the level that a Rosener or Evanson does, but for some clients that I have known for many years. One such client just deals in .tv and I have brokered some names for him in the $10k to $20k range. Most of these transaction were […]

February 19, 2021 by Raymond Hackney 3 Comments

Com vs Non Com a look at reported sales There is no doubt that .com is the undisputed champ when it comes to reported domain name sales. New gtlds are getting older, legacy extensions like net and org. Let’s just call them all Non Coms. Certainly for some exercises there is the need or desire […]

Will there always be a .io? One reader asked for a guarantee

February 17, 2021 by Raymond Hackney 4 Comments

There have been some solid .io sales this year and it prompted one reader to ask me if there was a guarantee that .io would always be in existence? They want to jump in but are concerned by an article that I wrote. A guarantee? No. Since the 2014 article on GigaOm came out about […]

Stats from the previous NamesCon Online (record breaking turnout)

February 16, 2021 by Raymond Hackney 1 Comment

NamesCon released some facts and figures from the online conference that took place a few weeks ago. Pretty impressive numbers in my opinion. 1,200+ Attendees (Record-breaking turnout) 60 different countries represented (not as many as Cassie De Pecol visited, but still a wonderfully diverse crowd) The majority of attendees joined us from the US, (28%) […]
