This week on Sedo the domain name InformationOfThings.com sold for $4,500. This domain was hand registered in October of 2015 and sold on May 18, 2016. Pretty crazy ROI on that one.
This was a smart hand registration IMO, a cheap speculative play with the potential for a big payout. Playing off the hoopla around the Internet Of Things, this made sense IMO.
The domain was sold by a registrant in Norway, and they got lucky twice. The domain was originally registered by someone in the U.K. who only held the domain for one year.
A domain like this you need to commit five years IMO, a technology related name needs some time to take hold. The Internet of Things is just getting started and you want to see how things play out.
When you get a good hand reg look at it as $50 investment instead of a $10 investment.
It is important to note that this transaction is not the norm, most hand regs are not being flipped for a 500 fold return in less than a year. But it shows there still is some gold in them thar hills.

More stories like this please.
I would enjoy a return like that.
Nice find Raymond, thanks for sharing.
Hmm every domain at some point was a hand reg so this issue regarding after market domains having more value or better chance of selling is simply a bogus domainer created storyline.
No it is an actual fact can you hand reg a two letter.com today ? no you can’t you need to buy that in the aftermarket and that name is more valuable than any name you’re going to hand reg today. just name one name you’ve ever had regged more valuable than a two letter.com or two number or three letter.
Thanks for sharing Raymond and well said about not most hand reg names would sell for even $500.
That’s decent ROI, I have to admit most of my sales have come from hand regged domains too.
Same here Bob.
I think that ROI is more than decent. It is not like your Football bets but pretty close.
Agreed re the ROI Ray, I am more than happy to take $xxx- mid $xxxx for hand regged names.
It is the range I have always operated in and I can’t really complain,It will never make me rich, but it all helps, and yes I had a good season betting this year, makes a change lol.
Where is the return on investment calculator site that you used?
