Close to 1 year ago Doron Vermaat wrote a post on DNGeek.com that delved into BrandBucket sales. The post expanded upon a post I had written in July 2013, BrandBucket sales Inside the Numbers.
Doron did a nice job of adding hundreds of sales to the data mix. I decided to go back and look at that list for some trends, these sales were years old so I wanted to see if there were some things selling then that are still selling compared to recent data from DNBolt.com.
Suffixes
Names ending in ly were a popular theme. 35 names ended with ly out of the 1134 sales listed.
Some sales included Tapsly.com,Targetly.com and Warely.com.
In a recent post I looked at some DNBolt.com data and Ly was popular still. The data from the first three months of 2016 showed 9 sales that ended in Ly.
Names ending in IO came in at 23. Sales included Zemio.com and Voomio.com. Zemio.com does not propagate and Voomio.com is listed at Sedo with a buy it now of $899.
Names ending in ZO came in at 21. Sales included Solzo.com and Todzo.com. Solzo.com is back on sale at BrandBucket. Todzo is parked.
Names ending in TY came in at 19. Sales included Gigability.com and Hitly.com. Gigability.com redirects to IMON.net yes the .com redirects to a net. Hitly.com does not resolve.
Names ending in GO came in at 18. Sales included Govago.com and Infinigo.com. Neither domain resolves currently.
Other popular suffixes include:
SO 13
MO 10
ZY 9
VO 9
OO 8
Prefixes
Ad was the dominant prefix with 15 sales. Sales included AdBulb.com, AdEnvy.com and AdFlair.com. AdBulb just shows a logo. AdEnvy.com also just shows a homepage with a logo. AdFlair.com is parked at Go Daddy.
There were 6 names that started with SYN. Sales included Synero.com and Synterna.com.
There were 5 names that started with UP and another 6 that ended with UP so that is a pretty versatile keyword that can find itself placed just about anywhere.
Keywords
Cloud is always popular and there were 10 sales included in the 1134 domain names sold. The keyword was both at the start and the finish. Cloudico.com and OKcloud.com are two examples. Cloudico.com still points to BrandBucket. OKcloud.com has a coming soon sign.
Other popular keywords include Pop and Pix. They both put up 8 sales with the keyword appearing at both the beginning and the end.
Tech is always a popular keyword but there were only 5 sales in this big list. In the DNBolt.com recent sales list Tech had 3 sales out of just a few hundred.
Stack showed up with 6 sales and the keyword continues to be a strong seller as the DNBolt.com recent data shows another 3, names like StackBot.com and StackPop.com.
The absence of Color
From Blue Bunny (Ice Cream) to Red Robin (Hamburgers) to Orange Door (Music) color related names are everywhere. When it came to the big list of 1134 sales there was only one, Greenza.com. It recent data from DNBolt.com there are some color related domains, RedTorch.com, WhiteStack.com and PurpleFence.com.
I can say the first name I submitted to BrandBucket and published is a color related name, PinkScarf.com. I like color related names and think that many brands when they cannot get a singular keyword will look to add their favorite color.
There were also some other popular keywords that did not make a strong showing. Keywords like Media, Chat and World are frequent sellers, yet there was only two Media related names, neither ended in Media. One Chat related name, Chatso.com, and no World names.
Hope you enjoyed the post and it helps you with your brandable research and strategy.
Disclosure: The data used to draw these conclusions was not 100% verified from BrandBucket. Sales data collection may not be fully accurate.
