I am a big believer in the .TV extension. .TV is arguable the most recognized abbreviation in the world across most languages. We have all used the abbreviation TV for quite a long time prior to the invention of the personal computer. Video is a hugely popular format online. Therefore .TV seems to make sense, in my humble opinion.
Versign, the company which operates the .TV extension has a pricing model which charges a premium registration fee for domain names it views as premium. Prior to March 2010, renewals were at the premium fee. In March 2010, Verisign decided to ditch the premium renewals and just charge the standard renewal rates (approximately $35.00/year) on premium .TV domain names. There was a tiny blip on the radar, a few months ago, where it seemed like Verisign was playing with the concept of premium
renewal fees again, but I don’t believe they have decided to stay with it.
So just a moment ago, I was checking the .TV drops and low and behold, Sitcom.Tv became available again. At Name.com, it is priced at $19,687.50 to register and a $35.00/year to renew. At Enom.com it is priced at $16,540.00 but renewal fees will be a little higher.
That’s the highest premium .TV registration fee I’ve seen since the pricing policy update in 2010. One has to ask themselves, will an end-user jump at this opportunity? Sitcoms are not quite as much in favor nowadays, that’s for sure. But then again, in the big picture $16,540.00 – $19,687.50 is really not a big number to the type of end
user who would benefit from a category killer like this. All in all, I think that it could make sense to the right end-user.
I think it would behoove Verisign to consider cooperating with domain name brokers on these high level premium domain names. It would increase the visibility exponentially.
The biggest question I have is, did Name.com really need to tack on the extra fifty cents?

Sick.
Oh well. Hey Verisign fuck you and have a nice day
A successful exit plan and I’m dumping .tv left and right for some losses.
Don’t give a fuck anymore. Got a lot more at stake in .com now.
Been a fun ride. Let them kill extendion off slowly. No end user adoption hardly.
Hey Jeff,
I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t had much luck with the extension. I’d be happy to take a look at your .TV portfolio to see if there is any way that I can help.
Did you purchase any of the legacy premiums with premium renewals?
Claude
I appreciate the offer. May just let rest drop.
Had a lot of success in dot tv. Made 6 figures.
Time to move forward. The extension is dying slowly. To much risk factors and domainers can’t control things. Wish they just sell the extension off and have desire and a want.
Will probably maintain 10 domains. But that’s it.
I’m glad you had a lot of success 🙂
