CVC Capital Partners to acquire a majority stake in Namecheap

Domain investors cannot have nice things. All summer it has seemed like Spaceship has declared war on GoDaddy. Lower commissions, rolling out new features almost weekly. Now other’s outside the industry are noticing.

The Wall Street Journal reported that CVC Capital Partners is nearing a deal to acquire a majority stake in Namecheap, valuing the domain registrar at $1.5 billion. Namecheap’s founder, Richard Kirkendall, will maintain a significant stake and collaborate with CVC, according to sources.
