So I ran a poll on Twitter/X to see what people thought about the $20,000 sale of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.com. Was it a waste of money or not?
A few things about the word first.
DotDB.com shows 27 extensions registered. And yes if you were wondering supercalifragilisticexpialidociousai.com is also taken and it happened before the sale, regged in August of 2023.
Bob Hawkes was kind enough to share a link to a story about the name, which most people think originates with Mary Poppins. It actually goes back farther than that.
According to Merriam-Webster.com:
there was also a song called Supercalafajalistickespeealadojus that was written in 1949, and the authors of the song brought a suit against the Sherman brothers for copyright infringement. In the end, the court decided in the Shermans’ favor because, among other things, affidavits were produced that claimed that variants of the word were known many years prior to 1949, making the plaintiffs’ claim unfounded.
the earliest known written record of a variant is for supercaliflawjalisticexpialidoshus from an “A-muse-ings” column by Helen Herman in The Syracuse Daily Orange (Syracuse University), March 10, 1931.

Well at least the .ai is available for a handreg, (that’s not a recommendation).
On a personal not back in 1988 I did win $20 when at a party someone bet me I could not spell the name, So there’s that.

Absolute waste of money there. Of what use will such name be. So ridiculous purchase.
