TechCrunch published an article on Web3 investors and how on the Venture Capital side they are in it for the long haul.
From the article:
“Those who understand the space know there’s a lucrative future that’s still in its earliest days,” they said. “Those who don’t understand the space also know that but will be more hesitant to deploy without a fundamental grasp of the real-world applications. Almost none of the purported benefits of web3 (decentralization, pseudonymous identities, zero-knowledge proofs, etc.) have been realized in full yet. It’s like the era of the [early World Wide Web], when every web page was simple HTML with ridiculous graphics and archaic capabilities.”
The article touched upon something that I wondered about from the domain investment space. Some are very bullish on Web3 such as blockchain domains and NFTs. But with all the news regarding Crypto in 2022, prices going down and the FTX debacle many got turned off.
Will domain investors in things such as Handshake or .eth see it like legacy investors did back after the .com bubble?
It will require patience and resolve to stay the long term and keep adding to the Web3 portion of one’s portfolio.
Domain categories sometimes just last as fads and I know toward the end of 2022 there were comments on some articles where those down on Web3 felt that the fad has already came and went. I am not sure about that, I think it’s a sector that is so volatile and prone to excess hype in some cases that it complicates things.
What do you see as the future of Web3 domain investing?
