The Daily Mail is covering the topic of domaining by focusing on Namepros member @Winna Jeff Gainey.
Gainey acquired the domain name MagicMillions.com for $2,500 a few years ago. He is asking $1m for the name.
Magic Millions racing carnival one of the biggest events on the Gold Coast calendar. The annual event has been attended by royalty in recent years and uses magicmillions.com.au.
The article labels Gainey a cybersquatter and goes on to explain his background and another domain name they feel he squatted on.
In the article Gainey is quoted:
He offered Magic Millions organisers $1 million for the domain and claimed they counter-offered with a bid of $1000.
‘They said we are trying to make money off their trademark,’ Mr Geaney told the publication.’
Contacting a trademark holder is risky business and probably should be avoided. The name on it’s own with the right lander should be fine.
