Will GoDaddy collect the money and allow the new buyer to own it, I mean they benefit either way. This could be a new strategy, many believe expired auctions go for a lot more due to the bidding frenzy.
This is the highest price for a LLL.org since 2018. So maybe this was a brilliant plan by GoDaddy.

I agree to your point of expired domain auctions often perceived to be the cost effective way to acquire but a lot of times winning bidder end-up paying higher than the fair market price.
