I was listening to a podcast by Spencer Haws over at NichePursuits.com with Mukesh Charasia.
Mukesh runs an SEO agency in India. The greatest story for me in the whole podcast was that Mukesh made real money off of a .org domain name with 4 hyphens.
2018: Built a website on a type error done by Humans
What was the website idea? To fix a router, we type the IP address in URL, our KW was 10.0.0.0.1 which is a wrong KW but has a volume of 200k while the correct KW 10.0.0.1 had just 30k volume. We quickly jumped to the opportunity and created http://10-0-0-0-1.org/. With only $185 invested, we were able to achieve 2000 daily users and later monetized the traffic with Ezoic, witnessing one of the highest ever RPM of 90$ a day.
We sold the asset via FE International for $34,000. (Currently its making more than 4000$ from affiliate+ads)
Mid 2019: Sold the website for $34,000 via FE International.
I think it’s a great story and shows that there are so many things you can do with domain names and websites if you are willing to try.
Many domain investors, especially younger domain investors do not have the budget allotted to go buy a 3L.com or a few CVCV.coms.
But being around domain names and blogs and forums can spark an idea. Run with that idea, turn a little into something, something into a decent number and then a decent number into something substantial.
