Peter why were a couple names auctioned on more than one day with different prices? Thank you
Good point Raymond. First of all most of the auction results are accurately caught and recorded, including those of the same domain name with different prices during several days. Major reasons include:
①Minor cases happen when domain market price fluctuates dramatically whether it hikes or plunges – these are real transactions that buyers win domains and immediately manage to get them re-auctioned at higher prices for quick profits or at least possible loss for stop-loss.
②Strategies some sellers using to manipulate auctions if they can’t manage to sell the domain at their target price.
1.For auctions with reserve price, when a seller judges his/her auction probably would not reach the reserve price he/she set, chances that the seller would shill bid the domain to a relatively high price below the reserve price. Such price will be caught & recorded as auction result but auction actually falls through. Most domain marketplaces charge low to CNY10 to nil in ReserveNotMet cases. And days later the original seller again tries to auction it.
2.Other cases like the seller itself win the domain and pays the commission to the marketplace if he/she can’t get a satisfying price. Normally the commission for general auction is affordable 3%. Or, the seller could choose to default on the transaction and pay the fine, depends on which costs less. In like manner, the seller again tries to auction it.
Such strategies are seen more on general auctions that sellers put domains of their own up to auction, but not practical in auctions of backordering type domains like deleting or expiring inventory.
We observe less situations in west marketplaces for they usually charge much higher commission also as the cost that sellers operate in this way must pay and for stricter punishment for default on auctions including but not limited to user account suspension.
These are some major reasons why you may see a couple names auctioned on more than one day with different prices. There’re other factors as well.
Thanks peter sun.
