Swetha from DNGear.com has been on quite a tear in 2020. The extension of choice? .XYZ!
12 of the top 15 reported .xyz sales in 2020 have been made by Swetha.
I took some time to ask a few questions on how she got started, and why .xyz?
1) When did you start domain investing?
Swetha) Thanks a lot for this opportunity to reach all the domain investors, Raymond.
I have started domaining since March 2015. I have registered around 600 junk domains in March and April 2015 in GoDaddy. Later on, I was started reading the namepros threads. I came to know what’s brandable domain, why would anyone buy our domain if it’s not good.
2) What was it about .xyz that drew your interest?
Swetha) After spending some time, I came to know that I just missed the boat (.com and other legacy extensions). I have tried to figure out what were the other alternatives would any buyer prefers.
I found these three extensions .XYZ, .co and .io. Among these three I have calculated the renewal costs, registration costs. .XYZ seems reasonable for me. Their renewal price is cheap as compared to other.
I didn’t mean the other one’s doesn’t have any value. Every extension has their unique purpose. .CO and .IO are Country Code TLD’s.
I thought their use could be restricted to that delegated country by the registries if they would like to. Where as .XYZ is a generic TLD.
So anyone from the world could use it. So I started registering .XYZ since 2015. I thought I was right after selling some .xyz domains in 2015.
There are end users who are looking for .XYZ. I have been renewing good domains since then. I built a portfolio of 12000 domains now.
3) Can you share the size of your portfolio and what is the % of .xyz and .com respectively?
Swetha) As of now, I have around 13000 domains, Among them 90% are .xyz. I have only 280 .com domains.
I have been renewing around 6000 domains among them.
4) There have only been 45 reported .xyz sales in 2020, you have 12 of the top 15 that is quite impressive. Were these just inbound sales or do you do any marketing or outbound sales?
Swetha) In 2020, I have sold around 55 domains. All my sales are inbound. I never did outbound.

5) What do domain investors that don’t like .xyz not get about .xyz?
Swetha) In fact, I didn’t want to comment on this.
Everyone has their own perception. Some extensions have been marketed by registries a lot. There are aftermarket auction platforms for some extensions. They have been auctioning lot of names between investors. These are getting reported in sales. What would any investor think after watching those auctions and sales?
.XYZ is targeting only end users. I didn’t see .XYZ registry conducting any auctions since 3 or 4 years. I don’t think they ever contacted any marketplace. I see, Some registries have their shops in marketplaces. But .XYZ don’t. They don’t have even an active account in namepros. So how could we expect all the investors would like or get about .XYZ.
6) Why are other .xyz investors not having as much success in your opinion?
Swetha) I guess some investors are not reporting their sales. And some investors are dropping domains.
We should have patience in domaining. Either it’s a .com or .XYZ we have to wait for the right time to get the right buyer. I just wanted to tell, PLEASE HOLD ONTO YOUR GOOD KEYWORDS.
I am very thankful to NP and all the members.

Talked to her a bit before! Really helpful and trusting person. She choose to list kawaii.xyz first..maybe that’s her top sale?
I don’t believe in reporting sales anymore. .com’r attacked in the past. Very unwelcoming and spiteful crowd. Always rekt our threads and created conflict within niche discussions. They couldn’t keep their nose out, pushed almost all of us leave their circle.
They’ll figure it out. More for us! We’re on the right side of history, I do promise that.
.com’rs claimed these are dead, but they’re just being born. Very hyprocrital view. They apply all their past failures on our prospects. It’s gotten real bad, they have giant sucking echo-chambers and now, can only speak with shallow breath. For me, it’s become commical, like turkeys frailing in the receding tide. Out of touch. Losing their mind.
A lot can be said. Anyways Kawaii.Fans Yea mine!

Great interview. It’s refreshing to see someone have success with a unique approach. Curious if all of those sales are $XXXX, as most of her sales seem to be. Thanks.

Humanity tend to live in comfort zone, .com holders trying to ignore .xyz, they pretend this was not happen and keep giving excuses, they strongly resist it because it hurts in their deepest heart very hard, and they still pretend this had never happen, bunch of blindness.

I’d love to see the premium renewal pricing on the names in the top sales……
.XYZ is definitely a sneaky extension.
For a great name – you’ll be paying 10k over a couple years hanging around for a sale……
Such as….
Home.(xyz)

I own some xyz names I was concerned about reselling to someone because I thought xyz registry would label them “premium” when xsferred to new owner. I emailed xyz registry a few years ago about whether or not they are “premium” and was told they are not on their premium list. I bought them at GA and the renewal has always been standard price. A couple examples are skiing.xyz, camping.xyz, and cycling.xyz. I still am not sure if they are truthful about my names not being “premium”.?

OkCom’r!
Some of us figured out that there are plenty of similarlly good domains that are regular cost. Those perhaps slipped though the cracks, or they let us have them. Regardless. Simply avoid.
Further, I aruge those high priced premiums are GOOD for us. That’s right, they keep what we DO have valueable.
You just don’t see it. You refuse to. I think your whole arugment is self-defeating. Those registy prices SUPPORT a higher asking price.

Great Interview.
So, who all are going to jump on registering .xyz domains? I think most of the great domains are taken there as well?
