Last week I wrote about the Elad N avatar controversy and how that got Namepros in a tizzy for over a week.
Namepros has now updated their terms and Elad told me on Twitter he is not returning to Namepros.
As promised, the procedures and guidelines were updated.
Here are the updated guidelines:
The guidelines also include some professional new avatars that anyone can use on NamePros. There are plans to add more avatars in the future, including some with different personalities.
Here’s what to expect with the upgraded guidelines:
- New registrations will continue to be required to adhere to the full guidelines.
- Existing members will continue to be required to adhere to the most important aspects of the guidelines, such as when avatars are very unprofessional or problematic (incite hate, racism, violence, etc.)
- In the future, there will be an announcement about stricter enforcement of the avatar requirements for existing members. At that time, we will politely ask members to update their avatar if they believe that it doesn’t fully meet the requirements. Some time later, we will post a reminder that the deadline is approaching. Once the deadline passes, we will enforce the full requirements whenever it comes to our attention that an avatar is not compliant.
We believe that this is a fair way to apply the changes and give the community some time to adjust.
If you have any questions, please contact support.
Thank you for all your valued feedback.
Yea, I’m out of there. I hope they will change for their sake.

NamePros only gained. The place has and will become more serious.
They gained nothing but at least a lot of members now know to ignore and shun the person who reported Elad.
Are you blind? Professional forum is meant to look and feel professional. Business forum is meant to look and feel business.
Are you kidding me?!!? That guy uses his real picture on twitter and when asked to do that on Namepros he started a big drama?
Elad lost all my respect!! I’ve never seen someone troll a community that hard. Namepros should BAN Elad forever. UNREAL!!
I agree. Did you see his avatar on NamePros? Completely wild.
I wonder why Elan does not use the same avatar on Twitter? Ask him. Why he uses normal avatar on Twitter and, what I feel is, disturbing avatar on NamePros? Twitter will probably not tolorate for a week what NamePros tolorated for years.
Are you serious? You are allowed whatever avatar you like, people have avatars showing their ass. Namepros is a joke and most real domainers spend little to no time there.
If I see ass on NamePros, Im leaving.
Why wait? Just leave now!!! You won’t be missed.
No, you leave. You wont be tolorated if you put this nonsesnse forward.
You did not answer the question. So, again why? Twitter will probably ban his account if he tries to use the avatar, he used on NamePros.
Why do you want to go into a rabbit hole like this?
Why does it matter if he uses the same avi on twitter or not? Are you the brand police? Who are you, “Yakov”? Show us something…
I searched “Yakov” @ namepros and found:

Don’t tell me that’s you. LMAO. You’re embarrassing yourself. Why don’t you use the same username? You’re more fowl than the one you try picking on.
You cast the first stone…
Nothing professional as has been determined most are hobbyists.
And nothing business?
They may have a lot of problems and things to fix, but the one thing Rob Monster has no ownership of Namepros. They have restricted some of his threads as well or moved to promotion.
Yea, I heard that from someone else too. That rob monster doesn’t really own it. I trust you. I’ll have to go easier on rob.
It’s just so strange..whoever is doing this manipulating is doing it in a way that does make rob look like the ‘owner’.
From what I see namepros has admitted they reacted a bit premature and said they would review their policies to assure it does not happen again. I don’t know what more namepros could have done to correct the situation. The moderator made numerous posts and then admitted he did not handle it as well as he could have. From there on he modified the policies and procedures and made an official announcement of what is expected from everyone moving forward.
Having run a larger forum community myself I can say that it is always a balancing act and it is difficult to please everyone. Engaging a disgruntled member to rectify a situation is the most one can do, hopefully that is enough but if not one can use the situation to learn and not make the same mistake in the future.
I suggested namepros make a new forum section for verified accounts, real names or real business names, and make that for sale forum exclusive to verified members. As more members verify the forum would become more and more popular and after a couple of years they could drop the other for sale forums and expect everyone to be verified. Verification is the only way namepros can work, one cannot conduct business with a faceless avatar, there will always be fraud if that is allowed.
As a real business man and someone who depends on his transactions to be legitimate I can only say that members would be far more responsible when posting if they were not anonymous. Letting faceless “Black Cats” members spam and create idiotic content will not move the forum to the higher level it needs to go. Well thought out articles, thoughtful responses, real purchases and sales are what namepros is all about. Other content is off topic and should be moved to the comedy section because it serves no useful purpose to the community as a whole.
Lets all remember that namepros servers a purpose and at the very least it’s not about avatars, it’s about domains and sales. I think if we all behave more professional this is a good thing for the board as a whole.
I like the idea Mapledots.
‘I suggested namepros make a new forum section for verified accounts, real names or real business names, and make that for sale forum exclusive to verified members.”.
Great idea.
