Namepros made a change today that has been a long time coming. For some it’s trivial, others they wish to see it disappear and for others it’s about time.
When someone comments on Namepros, members could like, dislike or thank. Much debate took place for years on whether disagree is more palatable than dislike.
Members were taking dislike personally, some send other members private messages, “Why did you dislike my post?”
Paul Buonopane The CTO at Namepros made the change today adding agree and disagree. You can thank someone for a post, such as bringing up a controversial topic but also disagree with the premise. Thereby adding layers to the conversation.
Now some forums and blogs did away with like/dislike, some making the point that if you want to support something, make a comment supporting it. If you don’t support something, make a well constructed argument against it.
Others are quick to point out most people are too lazy for that.
One forum I read had a member state,
Focusing on the toxic “like/dislike” mindset only causes circle jerking and encourages people to just shit post funny things for likes instead of adding constructively.
Another forum said people just abused it and only posted for likes, many times off topic posting.
They’ll all be moved to a single icon soon, but there will likely be even more options under that single icon (7 options).
You don’t have to use them all, but they’re available if you want to express yourself in a way that you couldn’t otherwise.
More coming soon.
If you are going to have the ability for this social interaction, I think the 7 option idea is best.
Does a Disagree take a Like away?
No you can do both.
Thanks Raymond
When i dislike to say disagree they cried. No other way to convey “disagree”!
Finally. Long overdue.
