Domain Investing Stats and Tips

The slope is getting even more slippery

March 27, 2020 by Raymond Hackney

Coronavirus domain names

Didn’t take long for the slope to get a bit more slippery. Yesterday I wrote about the industry going down an interesting path.

Elliot Silver published the news this morning that GoDaddy the 800 pound gorilla is not going to allow Coronavirus/Covid names to be sold.

GoDaddy clarified its policy regarding the registration of coronavirus domain names as well as the resale of related domain names via GoDaddy Auctions and Afternic. In short, people can still register domain names with coronavirus or COVID in them, but resale via GoDaddy aftermarket platforms is prohibited.

Here are the details:

This gets tricky in one sense someone will say, “Oh so they will take my money for registration, but not allow me to get money?”

On the flipside legitimate users might want to register a domain name for information, charity, etc…

On the flipside Rob Monster has said Epik will allow sales and explains why?

FYI @EpikDotCom will continue to allow CoronaVirus domains to be listed in its marketplace. This short video explains why and also clarifies where the boundaries are with regards to acceptable use. pic.twitter.com/Vd8w6Za2Et

Should Billioanire investor Bill Ackman be forced to give back the $2.573 bn profit he earned over the last week from betting on the Coronovirus stock market dip?

    The entire congress should resign.
2015 – Bill Gates warns the USA is not prepared for a pandemic
    Then SARS
    Then MERS
2017 – Congress decides a witch hunt and division posturing was more important than infrastructure and public safety.

All profit and salaries of all top gov officials from this crisis should be voluntarily deposited in a trust to aid the most effected and recovery.
None of these people will loose jobs, homes, healthcare, nor lack for food, transportation or toilet paper.

The domain industry should be neutral – the product isn’t the problem.
