Domain Investing Stats and Tips

One registrant gave up and the new one hit a home run

August 7, 2018 by Raymond Hackney

You need a little luck in the name game, for the stars to align properly. Sometimes it comes along just right.

I am interested in betting related names and I remember seeing a few months back that USbetting.org sold for $15,000. I thought that was a great price.

Last week while posting the top sales for the day I saw USbetting.net sold for $15,000, I was like wow same price, was it the same buyer?

USbetting.net is under privacy but has moved to the same registrar as USbetting.org. So I am willing to bet it’s the same buyer. The .org is up and running and the .net is just a holding page.

Here is where the luck part came in, USbetting.net was registered in 2009 and the registrant gave up in December 2017, the domain expired. A new registrant hand registered the name in March of 2018.  The U.S. Supreme Court allowed states to legalize sports betting in May. The .org sold in May for $15,000 on Sedo and the new .net registrant was sitting in a great position. August 3 the domain sold on Sedo.

The .com version is sitting parked at Sedo with a 50,000 GBP min offer to bid.

Why not, to a big player in sports gambling 50k is not a stretch. Especially since .org sold for 15k. Great .com name for billion dollar industry.
