I splurged and went “Legendary”. Mainly because I liked their cartoon monster. Don’t know if I’ll continue at that level, but will give it a go.
Minus 1 DomainTools account ($50). Plus 1 Whoisology account ($135).
If DomainTools had raised their rates while augmenting their services (instead of raising those rates while eliminating services), they could have kept some customers.
It would be nice to see a side by side comparison of DomainIQ, Whoisology and Domain Tools. I’m sure the article would get lots of traffic.
That’s cool… but one can clearly see that DomainTools with new pricing is still cheaper and offers way more than WHoisology’s LEGENDARY accnt option.
I hope domain tools go out of business.
They are different products and not directly comparable.
But, if you’re looking at reverse whois lookups, what Whoisology specializes in, then you’re comparing more or less unlimited lookups against 25 a month that DomainTools is offering with their new “personal” membership level.
Being a new service Whoisology can’t compete with the age of data that DomainTools offers, but DomainTools can’t compete with the way the data is structured on Whoisology or level of access. Both have their strengths and both have their weaknesses depending on what you use the data for. In many use cases they can be quite complementary to one another.
It seems like Whoisology doesn’t update data as often.
Whoisology is different.
Because we collate and make every single field of the whois data browsable we do it in batches. These are released in what we call archives.
So while we publicly do not list individual whois lookups (at the moment) like DomainTools does, the data sets are unique and allow for a different type of usage that is not possible with DomainTools.
I think you could say that the data is more macro than micro.
How long will the sale be offered?
The data tends to be not as updated I’ve found. For 50% off though it’s worth signing up imo. Thanks for the tip Raymond. 🙂
DT still has the best history, but the reverse whois abilities on Whoisology are really good.
does the Whoisology reverse whois results go back in time as far as DT. if not, how far do they go back?
Late 2012
