The domain name Open.tv sold for $25,000 on the Sedo weekly chart this week. The name was sold by long time .tv domain investor Makis Mourelatos.
The domain was purchased by Paul Boyd who is a correspondent for the television show, Inside Edition, Open.tv now looks to be forwarding to InsideEdition.com.
I can’t imagine Inside Edition rebranding to the name Open TV as their pretty well known under the Inside Edition name. They have over 500,000 likes on their Facebook page.
There is a company called Open TV that was acquired a while back,
OpenTV is a global software technology company for interactive and digital television. OpenTV was founded in 1994 through the merge of Thomson Multimedia and Sun Microsystems. Its primary business involves the sale of set-top-box operating systems and software as well as advanced advertising products.
On March 28, 2010 OpenTV became a fully owned subsidiary of the NAGRA Kudelski Group – Nagravision – and was officially delisted from the NASDAQ, where it was previously listed under the symbol OPTV.[1] The name NAGRA is often used for the content protection and encryption systems solution commonly used by digital television operators globaly.
Congrats to Makis who is someone I have known for a number of years in the .tv community, this was not his first major .tv sale and I wish him many more.
Thanks a lot Ray!
I had big expectations from day one I registered this domain, used to be my fav and one of the top I could buy in .tv cctld.
I sold it less that what I was hoping for but hope sometimes is not so powerful than cashflow. $25K is a fair price for both parties and now I’m ready to continue investing(mostly offline).
