Well the one new gtld I was interested in went into General Availability yesterday, .Media was the one extension I had interest in, that interest stems from media.com related names being a focus. It looks like according to Ntldstats.com that .Media did roughly 2883 registrations on the first day of GA.
So we are clear and there is no-nonsense, I am not recommending anyone register any .media domains, I am not saying they are going to have great resale value, I am saying that I was interested in the extension.
I was interested because this is a niche I focus on, one reason was protection, I have a few keywordmedia.com that have received multiple offers over the years and I wanted those names in media. For one I can offer them as a package deal and two so a prospective buyer does not go around the .com. No matter how much we as domain investors believe that is a mistake there still exists that possibility.
I also like media because I have found companies who could not get a LL.com or LLL.com either in use or too expensive and adding media was a common move. I also like that “media” is the 8th most popular topic on the internet by domain count. It has been as high as 3.
The pricing for .media has been all over the place Namecheap is $24.88, 101Domain $29,99, Name.com $34.99, GO Daddy $39.99 and Uniregistry at $29.88, of course with Uniregistry you can use your own affiliate code and get 20 % back making the cost $23.91.
Some names are premium, but it seems all the 1letter media must be collision list, because unlike other Donuts strings there were no 1 letter available. 3 letters seems to be going for $49.99 to $99.99 at 101Domain who has premiums, currently Uniregistry is not handling premium .media, I emailed Frank Schilling and he expects them to carry them in a few days.
I saw BTC.Media at $49.99 and IOT.Media at $99.99. BTC was registered by Josh from Chicago.com who also got Bitcoin.Media on Day 5 of EAP. Paul from Social.tv got IOT.Media. I owned IOT.tv ($136 one time premium) and sold that name earlier this year for a profit. Internet of Things names have not been red-hot, but the short IOT seems to have some interest in popular extensions. The blockbuster name of the string, Social.Media is not available, Living Social owns the domain SocialMedia.com.
Mike Berkens got a lot of excellent .media names including Outdoor.media, NewYork.Media and Broadcast.Media, if .Media has any aftermarket, Michael should do well. Of course with all these new gtlds that is a big if and may take years to come to fruition.
Names like Pink.media and Green.media were $400 and $400 renewal at 101Domain and $250 at Name.com. Pink is available and Green got registered at Go Daddy for $399.99.
From the you can’t make this stuff up category, tonight I get an offer on GlitzMedia.com, I had not yet regged Glitz.media which I did before writing this post. GlitzMedia.com was a name that dropped and I hand regged, the name had two offers from two different prospects in the first month I owned it.

Not sure where this lead will go but it is 4 offers on the name in a little over a year. I could not protect some of the LLmedia.com names I own as they are not currently allowed of course. All 676 LLmedia.com are usually renewed and rarely dropped, someone dropped XLMedia.com last year and the new registrant flipped it for $6,000 in about six months on Afternic.
The names I regged were Roulette.Media, I own the .com and Glitz.Media. Names that were not protection regs were Beauty.Media and the one I liked the most Fantasy.Media, from all the fantasy sports publications, to books and movies, it was worth a spec, I don’t plan on getting rich.
Yep there is potential with .media even for someone wanting to do a social media based website we already have a social media website for hotels using the extension using both hotel.media and hotels.media.
Nice Keith, best of luck.
I like dot media and your purchase of fantasy media was a great buy. May I ask was it at ga or EAP ?
All in General Availability Richard.
