I came across a site while searching called Whoisology.
The home page defines it as:
Whoisology
who•is•ol•o•gy
/"hu:%IzAl@dZi/
Noun
- The comparative study of domain name whois records and their development.
- A searchable domain name whois / ownership database with nearly 150 million individual
domain name
record updated regularly. - Awesome
The site is a pretty cool little site that if kept up to date will be a favorite of many domainers, especially those on a budget.
Whoisology allows you to see all the domains that someone owns (that they have the data for ) for free. Compare this with Domain Tools and the savings are off the chart.
Let's say you want to see what domains a company owns so that you can see if you have any in your portfolio that might be worth pitching. Just put in one name they own and get the results for everything Whoisology has on them.
Example – Google
When you check Domain Tools they have more domains from dns-admin@google.com than Whoisology has stored. 12,262 vs 8645. But Whoisology gives you the ability to look at all 8645 domains for free.

Here is Whoisology

The cool thing about Whoisology is that you can see domains by what name they start with, so if you wanted to see what kind of mobile names that start with the keyword mobile that Googled owned, you can just click M and not go through the whole list.
I will say on other searches there were registrant emails or names that Whoisology had as many results as Domain Tools. Some of the names were not updated, for example I checked a domain I sold, that was still showing under my whois on Whoisology but when I clicked over at Domain Tools the registrant was the person I sold the domain too.
The other cool thing about Whoisology is the ability to check which domains they have in their system by zip code or state or even phone number.
You may be looking for a list and someone has their names spread out, not just under one email, this way you can click the zip code and if that number is larger than the registrant email number you can just click that and see what names show, of course its a bit more work as you will see a list that you will have to click on each name individually. If its a large city this will be a lot of work and possibly unmanageable, but if its a small town it may give you more domains owned by the same entity using more than one email.

So go over to Whoisology and check it out for yourself. I only found it last night so if you find some other cool stuff to with it, please leave a comment here.
Thanks for Sharing this Information Ray…
I’d like to do something nice for you as well…

This is great thx. I just went in started putting in domain bloggers info got lists out the wazoo now, I printed them all out because I am not sure how long this will be free. Interesting to see how many so called “big” domainers own pigeon crap.
Awesome,totally awesome
Looks like they are using old data. I bought a domain April 8th, and immediately changed the contacts. But whoisology is showing the old owner in whois.
Whoever created this ? we owe you big time. thanks for sharing, really love the click on zip code feature.
So cool to look at what Berkens and Linton own, got a lot of searching to do today. It says the makers of domain agents created this. You guys rock.
Glad you guys like it, Viqi I said some of the data is old but plenty of it is spot on. What I did was check a name and then double check by clicking on Domain Tools if you really need the intelligence to pitch a domain to a company or follow trends. I would say the tool is more valuable getting a big picture not just looking at one whois record, can do that anywhere. But for a client I am working for, seeing what a competitor owns is of great value.
This tool is great the guys over at domain agents should win a traffic award for this. your example showed $1200 vs free. Hellooooooooooo
This is a great tool Ray you always seem to find relevant things. Dman nailed it when he said, “Interesting to see how many so called “big” domainers own pigeon crap.”
I guess if you sell enough Domain ebooks you can call yourself a pro but there is no way “He” is making 200k off the sale of domain names he owns. Absolutely NO WAY!! Maybe its a typo and he meant 20k. LOL Some of the other so called Successful domainers lists are even worse. Time to clean out that Domain Pantry!
I guess it all comes down to what you said Ray in your post “Is there an optimal portfolio size?” and my favorite thing from that post was when you said, “As for the so-called successful, full-time domainers, I think we may be surprised if we knew the actual figures. I’m sure some are not that successful” That sums it up in my opinion and now its backed up with facts from Whoisology.
This has been a great read because after seeing the lists of the so called “successful” domainers I realize that I actually do know what the hell I’m doing in this business. LOL
Thanks for the comment Todd, yeah I have always believed the business is so subjective and less transparent than any other legitimate business on the planet.
I am not saying people cannot be as private as they like, that’s their business, it just makes it harder to analyze things in a scientific way, which is what most people want, new domainers need. But its really more art and little to no science.
I feel like Todd and thanks to the author, because I spent the last two hours on this tool. To see what a Linton or Berkens owns has been eye opening.
Hey Everyone.
I’m Phil from DomainAgents.com.
Whoisology is a little project that we’ve been playing with for a couple months. It is basically a research tool that we created for our own use, but thought it was too interesting not to share.
It is in early beta. What this means is that it’s not finished, some stuff may not work entirely as it is intended, and some stuff is broken.
We’re going to spend more time on it as we go forward and I think that people will generally like how things play out.
Now … Have fun, but keep this in mind:
1. We are just a general research tool.
2. The data is not live. We are not a whois lookup site. We’ll add that feature in shortly I imagine, but the data used for comparative searches is sourced over a period of time. We will be implementing more frequent updates in the future, but it will never be live.
3. The data is not complete. There are a lot of domains. Tons. We can’t have complete records, it’s just not possible.
We also only cover the below extensions currently:
.com .net .org .info .biz .us .mobi .pro .coop
4. This is not a cheap site to run. Expect that we will be adding advertising to help cover costs. We’re hoping to break even on it’s operations at best.
5. This is not our main focus. We will be working on it in our free time. BUT as DomainAgents is becoming a serious machine this free time is limited.
6. Feel free to quote our info. But be cool and link to us.
Thanks for blogging about us Ray!
I’m glad to see most people so far are enjoying the site. Make sure to tell all your friends!
Happy to answer any questions.
Phil
Its funny how the successful domainers preach “dot com” only but then you look at what Ron Jackson owns and out of over 3,000 domains only about 10-20% are dot com. The large majority is .info or .us. Wow, thats an eye opener.
I have only been domaining a couple years but to all new domainers the best info you can ever read is the archives of all the domain blogs. When you read that Elliot used to sell domains on Snapnames for 60 bucks that alone will make you realize that we are all equal and all start as so called “Newbies”.
Start from the beginning before they became famous in the community. This is where you will learn very useful information with no hidden agendas and such. Below is the link to the first page of some of the popular blogs. Start reading and take notes. Save pages for future reference. There is so much info it will boggle your mind.
