Zermatt.com sells for $200,000 on Flippa
This was a website sale on Flippa and not just the domain. There is an interesting story about the
domain in the comments.
About the site:
Zermatt.com
is the premier website for Zermatt, Switzerland, the famous ski resort and home
of the Matternhorn, crown jewel and singular icon of the Swiss Alps. The
website is highly profitable, currently earning over $80,000 USD a year with little
effort. Activelifestyle Travel Network has owned and operated zermatt.com since
the initial domain name registration in 1996.
There was only 1 bid in the auction.
In the comments the owner talked about how the Zermatt Tourist Board tried to get the domain through UDRP.
Zermatt Tourism made no offer. Instead they tried to get the domain name
without paying anything by filing a WIPO arbitration case. You can read
the WIPO decision in favor of Activelifestyle at
http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/decisions/html/2007/d2007-1318.html.
This was an absolute steal at 200K. I’ve been to Zermatt, and the opportunities to monetize a (great) directory/affiliate site could bring in that type of money every couple of months.
But I will NEVER understand why domain investors will spend a ton of money on their names, but create the worst-looking sites on the web. HIRE A REAL DESIGNER.
I will never understand ego driven so called developers who are jealous of domainers Gene!
Lots of useful information, but crappy design………
