Cnet did a very detailed and lengthy piece on Intellectual Ventures. Who is Intellectual Ventures ? Intellectual Ventures was founded by two Microsoft veterans in 2000. Since it was founded,Intellectual Ventures has — through $5 billion in investment funds and its own brainstorming efforts — collected nearly 70,000 "intellectual assets" on technologies ranging from nuclear power to camera lenses. It currently controls about 40,000 intellectual assets.

For domainers this is an interesting read and deeper look into the world of intellectual property, since many domainers have to deal with the over reaching efforts of corporations on the matter of intellectual property its interesting to see how this plays out on the patent side. Companies like Go Daddy have put together their own patent portfolios.
