Last week Elliot Silver of ElliotsBlog.com came up with a nice little promotion to help one person promote a quality domain for sale.
Elliot has mentioned that over the years he has had good success advertising on Domaining.com. For those not familiar with this, you can pay $150 for the day (full 24 hours) to have a post at the top of Domaining.com. These posts sit above the regular blog posts that you see on Domaining.com. These give a greater exposure to a post as they are seen by all and cannot be blocked.
Elliot came up with an idea to help someone sell one of their names using this sales method.
The original post is here http://www.elliotsblog.com/contest-ill-try-to-help-you-sell-a-domain-name-using-domaining-com-9272
There were many domainers who posted an entry to the contest. The number was more than expected and instead of just picking one, Elliot picked ten and allowed a vote to determine the winner.
The winner turned out to be BabyPhotographer.com and that name will be promoted on Domaining.com for one day with Elliot paying the listing fee to Domaining.com.
The side benefit of this contest was more sales. Some who submitted a domain for the contest got offers and sold their name at the price they listed for the contest.
I had no involvement with this contest and did not submit a domain, I just want to thank Elliot for something original that sparked some sales and creativity in an industry that needs more of this.
Best of luck to the owner of BabyPhotographer.com and great job Elliot on giving back to the domaining community.

Very very clever contest Elliot ran!
I was keeping in touch with it via twitter.
I was extremely surprised at the number of people that responded to the competition and the quality of the domains that were being suggested.
As Elliot himself said the winning domain has great potential for SEO.
Plus the fact that domaining.com were getting advertising by their name being branded about in relation to the competition!
All in all an excellent way for Elliot to give back to the community and I would see an excellent winner!

I listed: CampaignYardSigns.com and sold within hours. Elliot is a great asset to the industry.
Thanks for the mention. Francois deserves credit because he promoted two of my contest articles with sponsored headlines, and I am sure that brought more submissions and possibly buyers. It’s always fun doing things that are win/win.
