Domain Investing Stats and Tips

Could be the biggest moneymaker you ever have in domaining

November 21, 2011 by Raymond Hackney

Maybe instead of buying and selling domains, domainers should get together to start the .sucks extension. Not that there would be a need for the extension, but you could sure get a lot of companies to needlessly protect their brand .xxx style.

The .xxx extension closed their sunrise period with over 80,000 applications.

Since then registrars are sending emails out the wazoo to protect your brand. Emails such as this from Name.com:

PROTECT YOUR BRAND, REGISTER XXX

Your name is the single most searched term that people use to find you.
Protect it.

.XXX
As you can probably guess, .XXX is associated with adult content on the web. If you do not want your personal or business brand to be associated with the adult industry, you should protect your brand by registering YourBrand.xxx.

So imagine .sucks, many companies would feel no need for a .xxx because it would be absolutely ridiculous to associate their brand with pornography. Every company wants to be disassociated with sucking.

The emails would go something like, “You don’t suck, so protect your brand today, register your brand .sucks.”
or
” Don’t let your competitor tell your customers you suck, protect your brand today”
Here is a look at how a company might decide on regging a .sucks.
