For decades, business owners have battled the unauthorized use of their trademarks in domain addresses purchased by third parties. Meanwhile, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), which oversees all domain registrations, has been crafting ways to open up new Generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) registries to ease the bottleneck created by the public’s voracious demand for websites, after the original implementation of .com, .net, .org, etc. proved to be far too limited.
