Thunayan Khalid Al-Ghanim founded Future Media Architects and is best known in the domaining world as Elequa. Thunayan first came on the radar screen of domain investors when Ron Jackson interviewed him for DN Journal.
Dn Journal interviewed him in April of 2003 in the second cover story ever done at the time, and then came back a year later to discuss his buy out of LLL.info and LLL.biz.
I got to know Thunayan years ago from a shared interest in .tv. His .tv portfolio just like his .com portfolio has some of the top names out there. Domain names like Travel.tv, Mail.tv,Music.tv and many short 1 and 2 character .tv domain names.
1) How many domains are you currently holding and have you been a buyer of domains over the last year ?
Over 120,000 domains
I havent been an active buyer lately.
2)Where do you see domains going from an overall value standpoint ? Do you see apps and the mobile web affecting values?
Domains will always be domains 🙂
Apps and mobile web will only re-enforce the importance of domains rather than affecting them.
3)We got to know one another through a mutual interest in .tv. What are your thoughts on .tv today and in the future?
.tv is a very important extension, its not just another extension rather it represents an industry. Since 2001 i believed .tv will grow stronger and i stick by that belief.
However, you cant compare .tv to .com this is this and that is that. It’s like comparing apples to nuts.
4) Since .tv the last two repurposed country codes have been .me and .co. Did you register any?
Didn’t register, just maybe elequa/thunayan
5) What do you think about the coming new tlds ? Do you see yourself regging any?
New tlds just tells us how important .coms are.
6) What are you currently working on that has you excited?
arabs.com
dj.net
mp3.tv
ibiza.com
impact.com
party.com
newyear.com
which hopefully all should be complete by the end of this year.
Thank you for your time Thunayan
Good answer on the apps question.
