Mike Jackness runs a good blog that has not been updated in awhile until now. He blogs on MikeJackness.com but the name of his company is Terran Marketing. Well it was the name, Mike is out with a blog post today on the rebranding of Terran Marketing to Tactical.com.
He explains the thought process behind the change:
- I would be looking for keyword domains to do affiliate marketing with.
- The name of the company I was forming wasn’t that important since I
would be known for the individual websites more than the overall company
name. - I wouldn’t be marketing Terran Marketing itself per se.
Well, as it turns out, none of that turned out to be true. Well, #1
used to be true, but we’re making a big push to get away from affiliate
marketing (future post about this coming up). I guess you could maybe
give a half point to #2 since people do know Terran Marketing
for individual websites in some cases. However, Terran Marketing as a
brand has really started to take off. People have come to know Terran
Marketing as a company that makes strategic domain name purchases,
designs great websites, and generally knows what they are doing.
Jackness has written over the years about some of his major domain purchases and flips. He also has written some excellent affiliate marketing articles.
Jackness purchased websitehosting.com on 1/28/11 for $190,000. He later detailed the sale of the name for $415,000.
I wish Mike the best of luck with the new brand and will be following Tactical.com to see what their next moves are.
