So only one domain actually sold?
Yeah it was a great auction for me I must say. I am the seller of Donor.org and I also won ZXX.ORG for $101 which is a steal IMO.
I would be embarrassed if I was Rick, I am sure he will not be but that was a fucking abomination. He is collecting commission on a $26 sale ? Namescon the door is open for you to come eat his lunch.
I bid on one domain, and like any other domainer, was looking for a good deal so I didn’t meet the reserve.
Here’s an idea: advertise these auctions to non-domainers!
Congrats Joel at least someone was happy. Auctions under $500 is just comical, when did Namepros buy traffic ?
@jeph the names that started at $50 were no reserve so they sold if there was a bid.
Zxx.org was no reserve starting at $100.
@joel congrats nice sale sir.
@acro you are spot on there has to be some way to get non domainers some exposure, but maybe its not worth it to Rick to put that time and effort in there.
@DD Its domainers just going for values, now I will say I wish my names started at $100, I do think $50 is a joke.
Yes it was certainly an enjoyable auction for me on both counts.
However, there just weren’t enough eyeballs on the auctions. I mean my domain Donor.org only got 30 or so viewers and it hit $6,000. ZXX.ORG at $101 is ridiculous the seller must be so upset.
Now I know it’s not all about volume clearly but many of the names also simply did not have enough views. I also think even something as simple as needing to send proof of ID would have put some people off.
I honestly think it could have been marketed better and that’s coming from the happiest person from this auction and understand other people’s frustrations.
Joel,
You’re not giving me and yourself enough credit. No way your auction got only 30 views. I have click through numbers on DomainShane.com that showed more than 30 each day that you advertised the name on my list. A great sale for you but it only proves that YOU spent the money on advertising your auction and achieved results. That was Ricks job. Rick wrote 20 recent articles on his blog and I didn’t see one that promoted or talked about the silent auction. I’m only tooting my own horn because the sale of donor.org and the great views that your other domain got proves that we domain blogs CAN help in awareness.
I’m pretty sure that some of these names would have reached reserve if they were in the Live TRAFFIC auction, imo.
I think this just proves that domain reselling market (selling to domainers for resale) is down. Most recent sales also show that domain end-user market (selling to real users, not for resale) is hot and up. For me, it is good news. We will see less sales, but with higher amounts, which will lead to increase of value of good domain names…
Shane makes a good point and it definitely works promoting on blogs, that is advertising well spent and it worked for you Joel, only name that sold for x,xxx.
Congrats again
I doubt that Vincent as the big names were in the live auction.
Good on you Joel for not being the typical cheapo domainer, thanks for explaining that he actually was pro active Shane.
Shane, you are right we should both take a chunk of credit for this. I don’t know why it only shows me seeing 30 or so views to the actual listing page which is weird but I am sure you are right, it must be something weird about the stats I am seeing.
In any event I want to publicly thank Shane for his promotion and yes it’s a lesson for all people reading this BE PRO ACRIVE! Is it any coincidence mine was the only mid to high 4 figure sale today?
I also want to say how impressed I am with Shane as he had a person interest in the domain and still agreed to promote it on my behalf, now that’s a real gent!
To Donor.Org,
I think your name sold for steal. Honestly I would have paid alot more than personally. But I have opted out of domain investing.
But donor.org at 6000 was such a deal. All the IDs have “Donor” and with .org. it was perfect.
Anyhow, thats my 2 cents
This auction did not get the exposure it deserved. After all these years I continue wondering why some marketplaces organize such online auctions if they don’t plan to promote it largely. The result is year after year domain quality decrease in such auctions because owners no longer trust these sale channels.
@sukhjin – Yes you are right the buyer got a great deal, but I think you are missing the point. Apart from the fact I made a solid ROI on the sale I also was interested for more reasons then may be apparent to do a quick sale on this domain which meant going for wholesale type prices.
Sure at retail and to the right end user it is worth more, $10k or maybe a little more but that was never my intention with this name and so it’s a good deal for both me and the buyer. Also, context is everything here with such a poor overall auction performance and no high end names selling apart from mine it clearly was the positive talking point of the auction. That and winning zxx.org for $101 as a buyer, so it was a terrific auction for me personally.
Thank you for your opinion though, you are right it is a fantastic domain!
Would be great if the table above had column headings…
I wish I knew about the auction. I received an email that it completed, but none that it was starting. Oh well, next time.
