When you decide to look at the macro picture of recorded domain name sales on Namebio, GoDaddy has far more sales recorded than any other venue. These are mostly wholesale prices based off expired auctions.
Now what’s interesting is that for a part of 2021 GoDaddy was actually reporting retail sales. Ava.com got reported in July of 2021, the sale took place in February 2021.
They initially started reporting domain name sales in 2020 and the data was always behind a few months.
The reason I mention this is because when we compare Namebio data from 2022 vs 2021, I would have thought with a few months of large retail sales, that 2021 would have been much stronger than 2022.
It did not turn out that way.
| Year | Total number of domain sales | Dollar Volume | Average Sales Price |
| 2021 | 102,093 | $51.4M | $503 |
| 2022 | 101,635 | $56.3M | $554 |
Just .com sales
| Year | Total Number of .Com Sales | Dollar Volume | Average Sales Price |
| 2021 | 94,866 | $45.6M | $480 |
| 2022 | 92,968 | $48.7M | $524 |
2022 had a lower total number of domain name sales, yet dollar volumes and average sales price were better when compared to 2021.
For all of 2022 Namebio reported 150,378 domain name sales, 2021 had 151,022 domain name sales. Dollar volume in 2022 was down by $15M. Still 2022 dollar volumes were ahead of 2020 and 2019 respectively.
2022 had 9 reported domain name sales of $1M or more, this is compared to 17 such sales in 2021.
So in the end, 67.5% of all sales reported at Namebio in 2022 took place at GoDaddy.
