There has been a lot of angst and outrage the past couple of days. Whether it’s domain investors not liking a prominent industry player and their new sales initiative. Or it’s a startup founder calling domain investors scammers, squatters and immoral.
Whenever someone asks me why do we put up with this? I hearken back to the Godfather part two. When Michael Corleone and Hyman Roth discuss who killed Moe Greene. It’s the line delivered so perfectly by Lee Strasberg the actor who played Hyman Roth.
“This is the business we’ve chosen”
Some pontificate what should be done, while others realize once you are outside of the domain industry, few if any care about the struggles and desires of a domain investor.
While we don’t have Murder Inc. to settle scores we do have the ICA and if willing to actually put in the work have complete autonomy over how we sell our domain names.
Now go out there and make them an offer they can’t refuse.

Why build a young brand on Camel when Camel*com is owned by Big Tobacco?
She could easily find a great brandable on dotcom for under $10K.
But in her case, she is receiving a lot of bad information from uninformed commentators.

In every industry, there are challenges that people outside of it rarely hear about. It’s easy to focus on the frustrations we face in our own work, but the reality is, every field has its share of gripes and grievances. There are plenty of people who hate high vet bills and make a fuss about it. There are countless others who dislike dealing with bank tellers and voice their dissatisfaction.
Just like we don’t hear much about the struggles of airline mechanics or the frustrations of food safety inspectors, those outside our own industry don’t hear about our daily battles. Every job has its own set of challenges, and the people within those fields manage them quietly, without making headlines.
So, while it’s natural to feel frustrated sometimes, it’s also important to remember that we’re all facing our own unique challenges. The best approach? Stay positive, work hard, and keep your head down. Focus on your goals and keep pushing forward, because in the end, it’s the effort you put in that truly counts.

That’s funny, Ray, I just used the mafia analogy myself yesterday over at DNW, in the comment under “Is domain name investing worth it?” August 6, 2024 where I talk about how I am a failed domainer. Just a brief mention there.

Forget “The Art of War” by Sun Tsu or “The Prince” by Machiavelli
Godfather(s) 1 & 2 are my best business and life guides — as you can rarely negotiate from a position of weakness, that you can’t trust anyone, that it’s better to wait when the water is calm to remedy the betrayals, that politicians can be manipulated, that it’s better to launch a multiprong strike when you are at a ceremonial or important event (such as a marriage or baptism) as your enemies will be caught with their pants down or off guard
