Logan Kilpatrick is an AI Engineer who worked for OpenAi and left the company on March 1. Logan was head of developer relations at OpenAI, supporting developers building with DALL-E, the API, and ChatGPT.
10 days later Logan decided to take a shot at domain investors. (Tip of the cap to BocaVision from Namepros) Calling them lame and telling them to let their .ai domain names be free. He goes one to mention let builders build. First off, you don’t need a .ai domain name to build out your A.I. project, company or idea.
He also mentions trying to sell their names for $30K. Not sure if Logan has been paying attention but many .ai domain names are going for much more than $30K.
One member at Namepros pondered if he was trying to buy a domain name for a project and this was personal as he did not like the $30K asking price. Why pick that number? Why not Sound.ai for $250K that Andy Booth recently purchased as just one example?
He tweeted out
One fun question for Logan would be the following? Why do AI companies not want to pay for copyrighted content they use as training data?
TheVerge has an interesting read
AI companies have all kinds of arguments against paying for copyrighted content
So maybe solve your own intellectual property problems before worrying about the digital assets of others.
Mark Thorpe says
Well it’s not like .Ai is .Com
No need to hoard .Ai domains IMO
