Frank from MapleDots has opened a new Canadian domain name forum at DN.CA. The site launched on November 1st. There will be a grand opening on January 1, 2021.
Frank told me:
The site is purpose built to have minimal to no graphics so when the marketplace goes up it loads super fast on mobile. It is very different from namepros and dnf because there are almost no rules, it is going to be a member moderated site.
This comes as no surprise to see more forums launched. There have been a few private forums launched over 2020. Some have grown disenfranchised with Namepros. Others just really want to pick and choose who can see their thoughts. Some are tired of having more political posts than domain name related posts.
I have said before that domaining is a collection of echo chambers. Like one person told me, “I don’t go to NamesCon because I don’t want to go jail!” When I asked what that meant? They went on to say that alcohol + people they despise would lead to somebody getting punched in the face.
Many have avoided forums altogether and just chat on Twitter or other groups. I had not heard from someone in the U.K. for a few months and he told me he was done with Twitter due to all the hate and if I wanted to chat WhatsApp or email would suffice.
Personally I devised another little system for using Twitter as your own personal forum, where you can keep out the haters and be private.
The member moderated site sounds good when you are small, tricky if you get large. One of the new forums in June asked me if I wanted to become an admin/mod? No thank you. More crazy in 2020 is not needed.
I wish Frank the best of luck.

Won’t have much action, I would be interested to see how much Dicker posts there as he is registered.
How many people in domain investing care about .ca? Good luck to them but it will be a ghost town.

Agree completely about the political stuff, I think some go there just to get their likes up, np has become useless. No business gets done that I see.

.ca forums will never work. You need new investors in the .ca space which will not happen. The entire forum is full of moderators and that’s the only way you will have them post. Eventually it will be dead.

To the .ca naysayers, I can only say you would be surprised at the .ca market and .ca domainer community. If you had spent any time in Canada, you’d see .ca being used everywhere.
