$4,100 for a category killer .com in an industry that’s booming

January 15, 2020 by Raymond Hackney

 Hard Seltzer

Hard seltzer is growing at an incredibly fast rate, According to IWSR, a market research firm, hard seltzer volume in the U.S. hit close to 82.5 million cases in 2019, and volumes are expected to more than triple, to 281 million cases, by 2023. Brandy Rand, the COO of IWSR shared that more than half of U.S. alcohol consumers drink hard seltzer at least once a week, with an average of 2.83 cans per occasion. (Source).

Even the King of Beers Anheuser-Busch is getting in on the action as beer sales have declined. Anheuser-Busch has owned SpikedSeltzer.com since 2016.

HardSeltzer.com was registered not that long ago, just five years ago and has been under privacy since. The domain was registered at Google and has just moved to GoDaddy.

The Sedo weekly sales report on Tuesday showed that the name sold for just $4,100. The name is registered in over 25 extensions.

Currently the domain name is showing a blog that is not fully developed.

Seems like a solid purchase for a beverage category slated for big growth.

I wouldn’t call this a “category killer”, nobody is going to be a major player in an industry by buying/using that name.
