Today we are having a quick chat with Matt Wegrzyn from Bodis, Thanks for taking the time Matt.
1)You have unvelied the Bodis Marketplace, Can you tell us a little about it ?
The
Bodis marketplace is a way for domainers to park and sell their domains
on one platform. Our marketplace is slightly unique in a few ways:
•
Lets you park and sell domains in one place.
•
Uses our own safe and secure escrow process
•
We currently charge the industry’s lowest 5% commission
•
It is fixed-price only
•
You have the option to skip parking and direct your domains straight to a for sale page.
•
We
simplified it for both buyer and seller as much as we can. This was
important in order to decrease buyer checkout abandonment and reduce the
domainer’s workload in getting domains listed for sale.
2)You also own Namepros, if someone has a Namepros account is that integrated with the marketplace ?
We
currently say we are “integrated” with Namepros but so far it is just
an idea and a start. In the future we hope to make it so that if a user
lists a domain for sale on Namepros it can automatically be added to
their account on Bodis if they have one and listed for sale there as
well. Currently there’s a lot of ideas floating around but none
of them are set in stone. I guess we will see once we get closer to
doing so!
3)Recently Elliot Silver wrote an article
on parking companies offering sales landers, it looks like Bodis has
stepped up and is now offering that correct ?
Correct, when
pointing a domain to the Bodis name servers as you’d typically do in
parking a domain, you can set an option in management interface to skip
parking and have the domain redirect straight to the checkout page.
Some
users have domains that don’t have any visitors and are just hoping to
land a dream sale. So this option is perfect for those types of
users/domains.
4)On your site you say "Fixed
Price Only Improve sales and let Bodis handle all the work while seller
only collects the payment." Does that mean people must list a fixed
price or will they be allowed to list as make an offer ?
Our
marketplace (with escrow process) is fixed price only. This means users
have to list it with a fixed price if they want to utilize our escrow
process. However, we also give an option for the user to set an inquiry
form if they do not wish to use our “marketplace & escrow process”.
We
have found that fixed price works really well in domains that are
priced under $5,000 where we accept PayPal/Credit Card as a checkout
option. Buyers many times get hesitant and are quick to pay for a domain
so that no one other potential buyer claims it as theirs. There are
quite a few other factors as well. But overall fixed price works really
well on these types of domains which really are 99% of domains listed on
our marketplace to begin with. For the domains that don’t fit the criteria, our inquiry is the next best choice.
5)Will you be marketing the new marketplace to get the name out there like Sedo and Afternic do ?
Yes
at first we wanted to launch it quietly and see what the results would
look like and if there would be any issues. Overall it has went quite
well. We’ve made a few minor adjustments and are ready to market it. My thought is what better place to start than Raymond’s blog!
6)5% commissions will certainly be welcomed by domainers, why did you decided to go so low ?
Our
platform has always been about parking for us. Many users that are
selling are also parking their domains. So a little from everywhere adds
up at the end of the day.
We also wanted to start out with a low
% because we wanted users to really give us a try so we can prove that
the system works better than the marketplaces that are out there for the
domains that fit our criteria.
Finally, the 5% is a commission
rate we charge for domains that are sold directly through our website or
through the parking page. In the future, partners such as registrars
might have a different commission structure as well as obscure TLDs that
have a complicated transfer process.
Thanks again for the time Matt.
Thank you for having me! 🙂
In recent 6 months or so my revenue with Bodis drops almost 50%. It used to pretty much constant for years, but last 6 months it goes down and down. Bodis should focus on that part, otherwise they going to be out of business soon.
How are they going to sell domains when they don’t have a list of the domains for sale on their website.
This is the only domain seller site that I know that does not have any domains for sale listed. STRANGE
